Took my mom there today for her birthday. She and I both had fried catfish and shrimp. My mom is very particular about her food and she absolutely loved it. My son had the mega burger, which is huge and his fiancé had popcorn shrimp. We ordered onion rings as an appetizer. The best onion rings I have ever had! We were all very pleased with our dining experience and the waitstaff were very friendly and attentive!

i went on facebook to ask my friends where i should go for the perfect chicken fried steak experience for my birthday...the overwhelming response was go to mel's ... i am so thankful for their recommendation... we arrived at the end of the lunch service...the onion rings were to die for as an appetizer.... i loved my cfs ... it was excellent... my wife had the fried shrimp and catfish combo and it was excellent as well.... loved the wait staff and the service we got... we will definitely make the almost 20 mile trip to go ba... read more
My son is coming to spend time with me while I recoup from hip surgery. I hope to feel up to a trip to Mel's to challenge him to the mega burger I have heard So much about. FIREMEN think they can do most anything. And he needs a new t shirt.

The service was excellent. Very friendly and warm enviorment. Great shrimp and amazing cabbage. But my boyfriend ordered the chicken fried steak... It was the worst chicken fried steak we'd ever had. It was mushy, rubbery, and had no taste. You'd think for something that cost $16, that it would be decent. With each bite my boyfriend took, the most disgusted he looked.
Best chicken fried steak in H-town. There monte cristo is soooooooo GOOOD !!!!!
