Pleasant but rough
Great activity for all. If the weather cooperates you can enjoy all that the park has to offer. The park in general should be cared for in direct proportion to its historical value. It isn't. The place is rough around the edges. Garbage is more visible than desired and the waterways are choked will algae growth and the like. The corraled animals are a tad sad. It really wouldn't take much to step it up.

Lovely place for a evening walk in the city
A surprisingly great amount of green space located in the otherwise very busy neighborhood with an assortment of animals. From predator birds and a black bear as well as some more domestic animals such as horses and cows, this park resembles a urban zoo. Yes, this is a urban park and yes, it could use some updates and some money fueled improvements. That being said there is no admission fee but instead a suggested donation of $5. The park is quite active with bikers, yoga groups, runners, families, ectr. and is a great escape with the Maymont mansion and zoo exhibits open until 5pm and the grounds open until 7pm for wandering. With friendly staff a

Great place for a leisurely afternoon
The tour, and grounds are beautiful. Huge estate. The grounds are very well kept. Plus animals for petting.

Not Good
Could tell they do not have the funds to keep up the grounds. Very disappointed with the entire gardens.

Grounds are nice...not so nice for animals
We were very disappointed with the animal exhibits. It is so sad to see a fox and then a bear all alone looking so depressed. It seemed more like prison for them. If you can not have companions for the animals, do not have animals.

Pleasant way to spend the day
This is a great place to bring the family and walk around! We visited the animal exhibits and the mansion. This was such a fun way to spend the early part of our day.

Only toured the grounds
It is free to spend time on the grounds of Maymont and see the various Gardens and the zoo. I did not tour the mansion. It is clear that the grounds were extremely beautiful at one point but now it is becoming very dated. Due to limited funding a lot of the area especially the zoo is very run down. The prettiest garden area to see is the Japanese Gardens so I would recommend if you have limited time you go immediately to the Japanese Gardens which are to the left as you enter. There is limited parking at the gate so it may be difficult to find a parking space on a nice day.
The grounds are very nice and is a popular spot for picnicking and playing outside. I would not

Beautiful setting lots to see
We took our 11 month old great-nephew here the other day. While we never made it past the farm and petting area, it’s clear that it’s a very popular spot. It’s easily accessible very friendly and has great signage. It is kid friendly as well. The entire park is easily a full day experience which we hope to do in the Fall. We did see a thing called The Portal and spoke to two university students in Kenya.

Unbelievable- such opulence
We had a great time walking around the grounds, beautiful but some areas are in need of attention. The mansion offers a tour, which is recommended. James and Sallie Dooley collected an unbelievable amount of treasures, and willed the estate to the city. The rose room, where she would visit with guests, had gold paint over the fireplace. And her swan bed - just doesn’t look comfortable, maybe that’s why they did not have any children. Ha ha. Every room had Tiffany windows that were all beautiful. A great way to spend a few hours.
