Marix Tex Mex Cafe

4.4

About this business

The Marix Tex Mex Cafe is not strictly a gay bar and restaurant, mostly because it's mainly a good Mexican restaurant. The clientèle is mostly men from the surrounding West Hollywood area here to check out the scene, get a drink and possibly an inexpensive meal. The wait for a table for dinner can be a long one. Many prefer to enjoy the comforts, and the crowd at the bar instead. The drinks are filled quickly by a hard-working, friendly staff.

I love it! – When my husband and I want a romantic night out we go to Marix. It's fantasitic dining under the stars with a feel of a vacation resort. Relaxed and intimate, but at the same time noisy and busy. I've never felt comfortable sitting at a table butted up next to other people, but for some reason, here it works. The food is healthy and fresh and the margaritas are excellent. The music is usually pumping with new electronic trance with an occasional Madonna thrown in and that's why we love it. Try the apple pie, oh ... read more

so downhill – I've been going to Marix for close to 20 years and in the past year or so I've tried to ignore a sharp decline in its food quality. I'm very sad to see how packed it still is regardless of how little Marix's seems to care about its food preparation. At least the chips and salsa are still good, but even the chips have changed quite a bit. Sorry to see an institution become medicre at best.

Margaritas and more – This tucked-away restaurant is one of my LA favorites. Marix is always crowded witha great mix of people. The margaritas and the food are outstanding.

Swinging cantinas cater to beach locals and WeHo scenesters alike. – The Scene Come happy hour, Marix fills with thrill-seeking locals seeking potent margaritas and spicy dishes--and not just of the gastronomic variety. Each wood-trimmed cantina offers a decidedly different kind of action. The Santa Monica locale keeps a casual beach vibe, while the West Hollywood site jumps and bumps with a mostly gay clientele and a constant techno beat--even during Sunday brunch. The Food Offset the "Kick Ass" margarita buzz with a lime-d... read more

went for a birthday party – Didn't even notice it was there, it's hidden behind another restaurant just off SM Blvd. The Manager got upset when more people showed up than we originally had planned. The food was good, drinks were a little expensive. The place itself has a good atmosphere but that always depends on the clientele. the building is small, and tables are close together, the the open roof creates a nice breeze through the place. I'd go back, just with fewer people.

It's good – I really love the food at Marix. Probably the best Mexican I have had in while. And it is reasonably priced. It's usually a loud and crazy place, so don't go for romance. The margaritas are over rated, though.

I loves me some Marix – Located right off Santa Moncia Blvd in WeHo, Marix is not only popular hang out, but has some of the best food in LA. The service is great, the staff is very friendly. The place is packed on the evenings with hot men and Jenifer and Brad from time to time. It a place to seen, see and feed your face. Not to mention some great margaritas!!! VIVA MARIX!!

I miss it – I could really use a pitcher of the best Kick-Ass margaritas on earth not to mention the best chips and salsa and chicken nachos there are.

local hip restaurant – Arrived to a bubbly staff and great music playing over the crowd. Quoted half and hour for a table and sat exactly on time. Staff was friendly and had a mango margarita in my hand before you could say, check out that hot guy! Three of us sat at our table and were treated like regulars by our waiter. Food was good and hot, nothing special. Drinks did kick our asses! Manager did ask us to move to the bar area, but bought us a round of drinks to do so. They will totally hook you up, to get a table. Great ... read more
