What used to be an old pineapple cannery is now Mala, the epitome of global organic fusion cuisine. It's not as complicated as it sounds. Chef Mark Ellman has his concepts straight: keep everything fresh, quantities adequate, use organic ingredients as much as possible and use no hydrogenated oils or preservatives. Ordered the mushroom dish with a side of lamb meatballs. More of a tomato taste than mushroom and the lamb meatballs were so peppered that they were inedible. Was very disappointed to say the least. So loud you could barely have a conversation at our table.
RecommendedWe love Mala! Great food, small plates. Right on the water! Looks a bit like a dump on the exterior due to corrugated metal. Full bar, beer assortment.
This building is only some sand bags away from the water break. Great food, service and potentially large splashes of sea spray if you sit in outdoor patio. Parking is also available.
Great food, service and location.
And watching the turtles was a plus.
