Located along the Lockport section of the Erie Canal, this amazing underground boat ride is unique. Using a custom-built flat-bottom boat, visitors go on a half-mile trip through a man-made hydraulic raceway cut out of solid rock, the work of 19th-century genius Birdsill Holly— the man who gave the world the fire hydrant and zoned steam heat. Accompanied by a guide and trained operators, the 1 1/4-hour ride is thrilling and perfectly safe.

RecommendedMadeleine led us on a tour that was interesting, rich in historical facts & stories, and fun! Great for all of us—ages 8 to 70.
What a blast! If you haven’t been, definitely worth taking a visit!
Our guide, Paige, was incredible. She was very knowledgeable, seemed to enjoy what she does, and had a great sense of humor. She was patient and kind and answered all questions that were asked. The walk to the caves is a nice one with a lot of history. Once inside it is damp and cool with just enough light to see. I would reccomend visiting!!! And hopefully you get Paige!!

Wonderful tour. Enjoyed the backstory from guide Joshua. Great to hear some of the old history of factories that were adjacent to the Erie Canal.
We were early for the 10:00 tour.. parked in the lot for “ partrons only”. At 9:20 an old man from the tour came out from the building and told us in a very gruff voice to “ park elsewhere “... did not even ask if we were there FOR the tour”!!! Heck with him and his stupid tour! Guess you didn’t want my money!!! We headed home to Ohio!
