Located along the Lockport section of the Erie Canal, this amazing underground boat ride is unique. Using a custom-built flat-bottom boat, visitors go on a half-mile trip through a man-made hydraulic raceway cut out of solid rock, the work of 19th-century genius Birdsill Holly— the man who gave the world the fire hydrant and zoned steam heat. Accompanied by a guide and trained operators, the 1 1/4-hour ride is thrilling and perfectly safe.

RecommendedAs a person who works in Civil Engineering and Land Surveying, I have always been interested in the Erie Canal, so finding this attraction was a real treat. Melissa was our guide and she was very patient, as my wife takes a little longer getting around. Got a lot of good information from Melissa who really did a great job.

Excellent tour- breathtaking views of the cave and fascinating tidbits on daily life working in the tunnel, which dates back to 19th-century. I had Zach- he led the tour in an engaging and professional way, and knew how to keep kids on the tour engaged as well. Must see! Great tour and thank you, Zach!

Found this gem just a day before heading to Niagara Falls. Decided to try it, so glad we did. The locks are amazing. The cave tour staff are top notch. Zach was out tour guide, funny and very informative about the locks, cave and history of the canal. Lots of walking but a a nice pace. Very cool to enter the cave and walk through to the boat ride. The boat ride was a fun ride through the cave. Well worth the price of admission and highly recommend doing this tour. Nice break from the tourist area of the Falls.
