At Downtown Portland/City Center's India House is a treasure-trove of delicacies for diners. There is a lot offered inside the city storefront, which is only steps from MAX. Do not worry if you miss lunch, because the same goodies are offered up as affordable appetizers and entrees at dinner. Try the Chicken Saag, a tasty dish with spinach, as well as delightful tandoori delicacies. There is a full bar, as well as some rare Eastern beers. The pleasant interiors offer plenty of seating for group diners.

No Naansense? – I looked for an email to the actual restaurant, but as I could not find one, I resort to this to voice my opinion. Overall, I enjoy this place to eat. It perhaps is not the best Indian food in the world, or even the city, but it has some great dishes and I've always been pleased when eating here. However, this evening we had $40.00 worth of take-out and much to our surprise when we opened up our food... had one slice of Naan. ONE. for two people. It was not a large flat piece either. It was a small, squished ... read more
poor excuse for indian food – I ordered Indian salad, spicy lamb vindaloo, and naan. The Indian salad ($3.50) tasted like a Mexian salsa on a bad day. The tiny serving of so-called lamb vindaloo was bland, didn't taste like lamb, and was swimming in oily red sauce ($12.95). The naan was cold, dry, and hard $2. This lunch cost over $18 and I left hungry and not happy.
Price $$$ and little amount – I placed a take out order which consisted of two curry dishes and a side of rice. I picked up three small containers equivalent to 3 small chinese food boxes and was charged almost $30. Good food but not worth the price.
bland, boring and bad service. – this was the blandest indian food i've ever had. i got a vegetarian sampler platter and everything was so bland and muted. the naan was cold and dry. my husband had lamb vindaloo and said it tasted like lamb and tomato sauce. the waitress was very flat and curt, never smiled once. she forgot our rice. we reminded her. she forgot again. the atmosphere was decent. i really doubt we'll return. not a bad meal, just disappointing and unsatisfying.
Overpriced, undercurried. – Atmosphere: Pretty nice, but a little chilly. Service: The food and drinks came pretty quickly and the waitstaff was attentive. However, our waiter didn't know anything about the drinks they serve, was hesitant to make a suggestion between two dishes, and implied that rice was included with our meal when it was not. Food: My chicken tikka masala was more like chicken in marinara sauce. It was a dark red color (not light orange as is customary), and seemed to lack any real curry flavor. My bf's lam... read more
Great Indian food! – I was reading all of these negative reviews and can't understand it. This is one of my favorite restaurants in Portland. I've eaten here many times and have always had a good experience. If you're eating here on a weekend, be sure to make a reservation so you don't have to wait for a table, it does get busy.
Felt insulted – I am from diff state, am coming here for work . I always like to eat Indian food. This was very convenient place from my office place. I was eating here from last 3 & 1/2 months (2 times in a week @ dinner time and Avg 150$ business in a month). I had liked the Green chatni. I was always ordered extra and they were giving me. Suddenly they asked me to pay 2.50$ for extra one cup chatni. I felt very insulting. Its not a matter of $2.50. It means that " they do not understand human feelings (as specially to ind... read more
what a joke. – this place is so bad it shouldn't even be classified Indian food -- it's Montezuma's Revenge. a ddiarrhea buffet. i swear, it is SO bad it must be a joke on all of us -- seeing how much they can get away with, serving soupy, watery, runny food to gringos who are none-the-wiser. it is SO bad, i can't even express my level of disgust without actually becoming physically naseaus to reenact how i felt. DON'T GO HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i cannot emphasize this enough. walk two blocks up to Chaat House -- their food is ... read more
Disappointed – There are better choices for Indian food in Portland: Bombay Cricket Club or the new East India Company that I would recommend.
