When it opened in 1995, Hunter-Gatherer Brewery and Alehouse was the first of its kind in the city and is among the oldest South Carolinian brew pubs. That is because brew-pubs were allowed in the state after a law was passed in 1994. Its rustic-cozy ambiance is accentuated by antique light fixtures, African tribal decorative elements and wooden furnishing. I've been going to the HG since the 90s. I used to ride in from Greenville and hang out, eat a Bad Trip and drink ESBs! HG was one of the reasons I moved to Columbia! Love everything about it! The food and service are great and the beer is the absolute best!

Great brew selection at a very reasonable price. Awesome ambiance. Dinner was very enjoyable as well. Easy place to strike up a conversation with total strangers.
Great food and atmosphere� Be sure to try the shrimp and grits!!
My husband and I used to go here when he was in grad school years ago. Went back last night and it was even better than we remembered it! Food, beer and service was awesome.
