This is a bit of a weird place. A bit Disney-like, as it's a "fake" village. The cafe's are a bit canteen-like and a bit naff. The staff were a bit grumpy and rude, ignoring customers and having a conversion with other staff members. Very grudging service, at each location I went into. And apart from that, the food was quite expensive. It's a very interesting place, due to its history, and the gardens and walk were lovely, however we wouldn't return.

We had afternoon tea here as we were curious about visiting Portmeirion for the first time, but found the £20 entry fee a bit steep, but if you book afternoon tea at the hotel you can visit the village for free. The afternoon tea was delicious. Lots of unusual teas to choose from, and catered to my nut allergy excellently. So much food, all delicious and the sweet treats of patisserie standard! We stayed for two nights in the Portmeirion Hotel down in the village in mid August. The price was rather high and in my opinion, not worth it. The good: Access to the village out of hours is very nice. The bar and lobby and public areas of the hotel are quite beautiful. The service was mostly okay. The check in process was smooth and village itself is beautiful. The bad: The room we stayed in was in dire need of a refresh.
