The Hillside Restaurant was started in 1955, making it the most well established restaurant in Northern Illinois. When it began it was a small counter style chicken house, created in a charming building that had been a shoe store and a doughnut shop. Good food and great service.
I went for brunch. Had an excellent steak and eggs plate called the “Hero Breakfast.” Every table gets fresh baked muffins at brunch. They had fantastic texture and a crispy top. Jake was a knowledgeable server who took good care of us.
I loved the chicken livers and the New York Cheesecake was delicious. Great service as well.

This place is my favorite in DeKalb. Everything I’ve tried is good. The environment is cozy and quiet. The staff is so polite and friendly. I come here nearly every time I come back to college with my family. It’s slightly expensive, but it’s worth it. The Beef Stroganoff is my favorite entree.
