Pleasantly Surprised – We made reservations before reading the five other reviews. Four of the five reviews were bad. I wanted to cancel, my boyfriend wanted to take a chance. We are glad we did! The jazz was great, the service was attentive, the food was very good and we were surprised that the prices were lower than we expected. He ordered the Kansas City steak medium but should have done medium rare, but it was very good. The San Francisco style Cioppino was generous and delicious. The oysters on the half shell, mmmmmm, w... read more

Smoky, overpriced – Had dinner in the Blue Star Room. Prices are about twice as high as other restaurants with similar (or better) quality food. Was disappointed with the side dishes: I ordered the house salad because the server said it was a very special salad and no other restaurant had one like it. It was disappointing: the salad was clearly prepared ahead of time. Further, the ingredients lacked fusion and were unimaginative. The baked potato was over cooked. The dessert menu was lacking: they either had some huge desser... read more

Best Breakfast In Town – I love almost everything at Hell's Kitchen. Words cannot do justice to the homemade peanut butter. If you like the smell of roasting peanuts, you will love this PB. And it's just a condiment. I imagine they make their Bloody Marys with beer because a beer and wine license is cheaper than a liquor license, but just MAYBE because they taste so good with beer. My favorite dish is the crab cake with poached egg and roasted red pepper hollandaise. The crab cake is light, moist, and fluffy -- the best I ha... read more

We Love This Place! – Rossi's Blue Star Room is a favorite place to have dinner and enjoy jazz with friends. The food is great- on par with other great steak places and if you like jazz it's a perfect combination. The service has always been good for us as well! If you are concerned about the prices it is a great place to just have drinks and they always welcome that. Also- they have a fab dinner special on Sunday evenings as well.

Really Terrible for Lunch – We went there for lunch and the experience was terrible. There was only 3 tables occupied at 12:30 on a week day. Considering the lack of occupancy, there should be better service, but we were practially ignored. The waiter, when he deigned to appear, recommended a chop salad ($14.95). When the salad came, it had wilted lettuce (where you can see the sick yellow color in it) and did not have what the menu said it had (shrimp, provolone etc.). I mentioned this to the waiter and he argued with me, s... read more

house manager – When I am in town, this is my ritual stop on a Sunday morning. It's fun, kitsch and a destination point during my visits to Minneapolis. The Huevos Rancheros are superb and quite an abundant plate. The mammoth coffee cups are never left empty. Service w/the pajama/negligee clad staff is fun and quite exceptional. This is the place to start a Sunday or any day. Do check it out.

Unbelievable screw-up – My first visit to this venue was a disaster. The performer was a legend, Toshiko Akiyoshi. But management booked a business meeting/reception in *during* her performance. The trio could hardly be heard above the uproar of that crowd. Extremely disrespectful of the artist, much less the paying customers. Table service was at best pathetic: unattentive, clueless, rushed, despite there only being about 10 tables occupied beyond the party. Food was OK, but we were only offered a choice of two fixed menu i... read more

Nice, but EXPENSIVE! – Nice Atmosphere and music but EXTREMELY EXPENSIVE! Shrimp cocktail appetizer of 4 shrimp is $16! A Baileys and coffee is $9. What is this, New York? Go for the great jazz, but eat before you go!

Hell's Kitchen Rocks! – I love this place - the servers are great, the lemon ricotta pancakes, the porridge, sausage bread amazingly fabulous...creative, delicious, menu - a real treat! Give yourself plenty of time to wait for a table on weekends, though...
