I went to Goodwin antiques, Queensbury st. with a beautiful vintage diamond and onyx brooch that I wanted to sell. I am from South Africa and had walked the streets of Edinburgh looking for antique dealers. When I arrived at the shop, I was greeted warmly and very politely by the lady shop assistant and a young man. They explained that the jeweller had just popped out for a moment. Wouldn't be long! Brought a watch in for a button repair. When I collected it, the case had several new scratches — three of which remain clearly visible, even after Goodwins attempted to buff them out. There was no mention of this damage when I picked up the watch. When I returned to raise the issue, I was told the scratches were “normal.” When I asked why this wasn’t flagged at collection, I was informed the work hadn’t been reviewed before returning the watch to me.
