We went on the Lighthouse trip which includes a 30in stop at the lighthouse, and you can pay extra to go inside and up to the top. There was lots of wildlife to see - seals, eider duvks, shags, cormorants. We were not at the right time for puffins. The boat is quite small, so you do feel every eave and will get seaspray from time to time. It's a worthwhile trip to see the Farne Islands and get a good commentary about them.

We had a fantastic trip around the Farne Islands and landing on Inner Farne today. We had originally booked for Wednesday but it had to be rearranged due to bad weather. The tour guide (didn't catch his name but he was from Yorkshire) was brilliant and very knowledgeable. Thanks also to George, the skipper and the lovely lady working in the ticket kiosk. It was such an enjoyable trip and well worth the money.

Beware if you have children aged 12-15 in your party as Golden Gate charge adult price for age 12+ wheras the other boat operators have a child reduction (£7 less) for 5-15 year olds. Also beware that as Golden Gate classed our 12 year old as an adult when we took our boat tickets to the National Trust cabin to pay the landing fee we were charged £15 (18+) rather £7.50 (ages 5-17). Went with Golden Gate on their 2 hour lighthouse trip, good experience but I don't think anyone on board could understand the commentary, strong accent and poor quality tannoy.
