If you want to travel with this company, you have to be a Miss or Mr Universe. I paid my deposit for a tour to Portugal and Spain and when I told them I was taking a small portable wheelchair, I was told I couldn’t travel with them. They don’t accept wheelchairs, even though I was traveling with my husband and he was able to assist me, if necessary. That is discrimination.. and then they gave me a hard time about the refund.. DONT TRAVEL WITH GATE 1
My friend and I bought a trip, with insurance, from New York to Paris. Our flight was cancelled the day before departure (due to weather). So we were put on a flight departing 2 days later, but the hotel in Paris would not hold our room and was non-refundable. After many phone calls and emails we did NOT get any money back even though we bought the insurance (in which they informed us weather was covered for trip cancellation). Just finished the Greece tour with the 7 day cruise. Our Gate 1 Tour Director Constantine was absolutely amazing! This tour would not have been as fabulous without his guidance. He always seemed to appear just when we needed him but never pushy or overbearing! He is very knowledgeable about Greece and genuinely wanted our entire group (31 people) to enjoy their trip! All of Gate 1 staff was amazing and thought if everything! Kudos Kostas!!! Yama!!!
Just got back from Ireland-England-Scotland tour. Had a great time, celebrated my 35th anniversary with my wife in Scotland!
The Gate 1 Culture tour of Ireland was spectacular. Our guide, Kate Matthey, was so knowledgeable, sincere, funny, caring and entertaining. Michael, our driver, was kind and careful. We always felt safe and cared for in their hands. The hotels and meals were top-notch and we loved the Stud Farm, Bob the herding dog, the poetry luncheon and, of course, the Guinness tasting. The meals in genuine Irish pubs were fun. We were enjoyed ourselves immensely.
Very unhappy with Gate 1 Travel and will not book future trips with them... and I haven't even begun my trip. Situation: Gate 1 Travel has a round trip booked for me from JFK to Dublin using Aer Lingus. I need to cancel the first leg, but keep the leg home. I am giving 1 week advance notice and this would cost Gate 1 Travel and Aer Lingus absolutely nothing; it would allow them to book a new person on the departing flight. Finished the 9 day Enchanting Italy. Gabriella, our guide was the best.
BEWARE! I booked a tour for a twin room, as my roommate was someone I met through a travel group and did not know well. We got to a hotel and went into the room with ONE BED. Unacceptable. The tour leader could not do anything about it. I ended up having to sleep on some pull-out with foam cushions(something that a 5 year old would get) that were all different sizes, when I paid for a real bed! I then contacted Gate1.
