These top-heavy pies conform to the adage that more is better. – In Short Tables hang upside down from the ceiling; knickknacks, board games and video games keep customers busy while they wait. Here, diners get in line to order, grab a booth and pick up their own pizza and utensils. There are more than 30 different toppings, including oysters and soy cheese, plus two different doughs and four styles of crust. The tender-crust calzone is also very good. The small but well-stocked salad bar is an added bonus.

Call ahead, grab a game – My favorite pizza in Portland or anywhere. You have to try it for yourself - I've taken people there who didn't like it. Thick juicy toppings piled high - heck yes I use a fork! And love it. I always call in my order ahead whether eating in or out - highly recommended to avoid a half-hour wait. My favorite thing to do is grab a rootbeer and play games with a friend. They have a ton of board games behind the counter. And yes, there are kids running around the place around dinnertime, but it's all par... read more

Just ok. – Looking at the 94 reviews before me, most of them said this place had great pizza and slow service. It was not the service that was slow. They quoted me 30 minutes to make my medium pizza on a Friday night at 8:30pm. They were not backed up, not really crowded. It was just their standard time to make a pizza. The pizza came out in about 25 minutes, they were right. The pizza was ok, the crust was too crisp. The dough was nothing special. In my opinion, Chicago style pizza means great dough. Their dough was just so... read more

Best Pizza in Portland? Best Pizza Anywhere! – I don't consider myself a great pizza expert, but when I tried Flying Pie years ago I could not eat any other pizza. The flavor of the crust and the toppings are better than I have ever had. They pile the meats and veggies on so generously that you need a fork to collect what has run over onto your plate. Delicious! The first time I went in I thought it was pricey until I found their pizza will feed my family for under 5 bucks a head. And their lunck special is a real value. Hug... read more

great pizza---lousy ambiance – My girfriend convinced me to check this place out, and the pizza was the best I've eaten in Portland. But this joint is purely for take out, unless you're married and don't want to leave your four kids at home with a sitter...in which case join the crowd...you'll feel right at home. So will your kids. They were running, yelling, spilling and crying seemingly everywhere, and at every moment while I was there, and I was there for a full hour before our pizza was even ready. Plus...there's one res... read more

Mama Mia, I ate da whole pizza pie – I've been to flying pie many times for dine in and take out. It's hands down the best pizza i've ever had. Because of the huge amount of toppings the crust on the take out can get a little soggy in the center. Even so it's still exellent. On friday and saturday night expect a 1 hour wait. Call ahead and order, or get a game from the cashier and have some fun with friends while waiting. If you drive around back there are two empty parking lots that are unused at night and safe to park in. ... read more

How Is This Crap Voted Best Pizza? – Absolutely the worst pizza I've ever had. I truly cannot understand how this place was voted best pizza in Portland. I may be a pizza snob but this is not pizza. The toppings are so big that it makes it almost impossible to pick up a slice. You have to eat it with a fork and knife. A FORK AND KNIFE!!! The crust and sauce is nothing to write home about either. I know Portland is not known for it's pizza but this can't really be the best there is, right? Portlanders have better taste than t... read more
