A fantastic field centre to take MSc students studying ecology and wildlife conservation. There is plenty to do in the extremely picturesque grounds, including bat surveys, moth trapping and small mammal trapping (FSC provide equipment and a survey licence for the latter). However, Nettlecombe is also in a great location for exploring some interesting rewilding and restoration projects, such as the Holnicote Estate and Steart Marshes. I recently attended a residential field studies course at Nettlecombe, and it was an outstanding experience overall. The setting—a charming, secluded valley in a Grade I listed building—offered a unique blend of historical character and natural beauty. What a beautiful old house in a gorgeous area, all the staff were friendly and professional. The food was good for refuelling after days in the field and they were very accommodating of all the requirements of our group.
