Great restaurant Whenever I have guests in from out of town, this is one of the first restaurants I take them to! I think it's a great taste of how awesome the Mexican food is in southern California (being from the east coast, everything tastes awesome to me, but this place particular). I'm a big fan of their margaritas and definitely for a mean - chicken chimichangas!! Great atmosphere and so much fun if you're going out for a friend's birthday. The chips and salsa even rock!
El Cholo Pasadena Moved This place has moved to Paseo Colorado, fantastic location next to PF Changs.
Good for Family Gatherings Whenever my family flies in they like to go to El Cholo. I highly recommend making reservations. The place is always crowded. The service was great and the food was good too. I'm surprised by the bad reviews, but I have never had a problem with slow service here. Overall the restaurant is very good.
Wonderful Rehearsal Dinner For my son's wedding we chose El Cholo for the Rehearsal Dinner.Our party was around 35 people. the setting was lovely. we had our own section. The staff prepared our guacamole at table side. It was delicious as were all the tasty and nicely prepared appetizers.I'd asked for a buffet style dinner so that everyone could get what they wanted including the vegetarians. Pricey I use to love this place. It seems like the food isn't as good anymore and, well, it is just so overpriced I get mad every time I go in. You can do much better elsewhere for the price.
Can the Service and the Food Be Any Worse? My goodness. How can this be? An extremely popular restuarant for sure, but with food and service that's so awful you wonder why so many people are crowding into the lobby to wait for a table.
bad food , too expensive, good drinks though.. The food took FOREVER to get to our table, we were looking for our waitress for al least 30 minutes, when we told the manager at least he apologized and someone else brought the food, the guacamole was the only good thing about the food, everything else was terrible. the put like two pounds of cheese on every dish, the rice was cold and didnt taste fresh, overall food and service were plain bad. They have good drinks thats about it.
Very disappointing El Cholo We went to Pasadena for the Rose Bowl Parade and game and went to El Cholo on 12/30/05--service was horrible and food was slow in coming and not what we ordered so had to send it back and then when they brought it the second time it took forever and was mostly cold. I have always enjoyed El Cholo. I LOVE their margaritas (although they are not as good when you order them by the pitcher) and the chicken chimichangas are so good I haven't even bothered to try anything else. It's not a place to go and have an intense, quiet conversation but it's fun for birthday parties. If you like it a little quieter week nights are nice because it's not as busy.
