Wonderful Rehearsal Dinner For my son's wedding we chose El Cholo for the Rehearsal Dinner.Our party was around 35 people. the setting was lovely. we had our own section. The staff prepared our guacamole at table side. It was delicious as were all the tasty and nicely prepared appetizers.I'd asked for a buffet style dinner so that everyone could get what they wanted including the vegetarians. This restaurant is a great place to go with friends for food & margaritas. A personal favorite is the chicken chimichangas. The blue corn tortilla enchiladas are also wonderful! The atmosphere is a bit loud, so it's better for a party or large group. There are also some people who come around playing music - sometimes it's annoying, sometimes it's fun.
Great service, wonderful food! You have to try their Guacamole, it's a little expensive but the best appetizer on the menu, they will make it fresh at your table.
Pricey I use to love this place. It seems like the food isn't as good anymore and, well, it is just so overpriced I get mad every time I go in. You can do much better elsewhere for the price.
No longer a favorite I used to love this place. I had been a fan of the one in Santa Monica and was thrilled when they opened one closer to my house. I love their green corn tamales which are seasonal and I always liked their guacamole and margaritas. The past two times I went there...there were long waits, the food was not good and it was so incredibly cold that I couldn't enjoy myself because my teeth were practically chattering. I was not impressed by the food or the service. From my estimation, this will probably be more of a fad restaurant in the Pasadena area. The original in LA is great, but I was very disappointed with my visit to the Pasadena location. It is currently on of the hip places to go, but there are much better places to go for basic or more upscale Mexican in Pasadena that have nicer atmospheres and cuisine.

Very disappointing El Cholo We went to Pasadena for the Rose Bowl Parade and game and went to El Cholo on 12/30/05--service was horrible and food was slow in coming and not what we ordered so had to send it back and then when they brought it the second time it took forever and was mostly cold. Totally bought into the hype when they took over the building once the pub left - but there is always a wait, the food is average and it is very expensive. The only dish worth going for are the Tacos Al Carbon - really tasty. The bar isn't bad - but pretty noisy. Only lot parking is valet and there isn't much street parking. I would go to the Taco Truck on Fair Oaks.
