About this business
Many believe that Abe Doumar, founder of Doumar's Cones & Barbecue, gave the world its first ice cream cone. Doumar was a traveling salesman retailing paperweights at the famous St. Louis World's Fair in 1904. When an ice cream seller exhausted his stock of paper dishes to hold the ice creams, he got a nearby waffle maker to roll his waffles into cones and thus invented the waffle cone. Dumars is one of the last true Norfolk traditions... unchanged since childhood. My time capsule of memories, limeade and delicious bbq :)
Just wanted to say that Kaitlyn/Caitlyn(didn't catch the spelling) was our waitress this visit and she was AMAZING!!! Very friendly and great service!

As a Virginia native, I've been here more times than I can count! I live in Massachusetts now, but I was fortunate enough to be able to bring my toddler there for the first time in March :-) I love the grilled cheese with bacon, and Egg-O-Doumar. I rarely leave without having a Ringo for dessert! A trip to VA for me is not complete without a visit to Doumar's.
