Many believe that Abe Doumar, founder of Doumar's Cones & Barbecue, gave the world its first ice cream cone. Doumar was a traveling salesman retailing paperweights at the famous St. Louis World's Fair in 1904. When an ice cream seller exhausted his stock of paper dishes to hold the ice creams, he got a nearby waffle maker to roll his waffles into cones and thus invented the waffle cone. Minced bbq pork w/slaw was very good! Fries were hot and fresh. We had a hot fudge cake sundae for dessert and it was heaven in a cup! Definitely will return the next time I'm in Norfolk!
Cheap prices and the food taste even more cheap. Really hoped it would have been way better with all the great reviews. But its really gross and i was extremely hungry and that says alot. Maybe a good place for desserts but nothing else. My 3 year old loved the ice cream cone though.
If you're looking for someplace fancy with a menu filled with the latest trends... then this is not the place to go. But if you're looking for something that is warm, friendly, and filled with old-fashioned goodness.... then Dumars is the place. I always run into a friend when I drop by and drink a real limeade made with real limes. They don't make places like this anymore!
I love eating at Doumar's and will continue eating there till my hubby gets stationed elsewhere!!
When our waitress (Jenny from the block?) wasn't rude, she acted a bit too familiar, like I was one of her homegirls. Kind of gruff and unprofessional. I am probably old enough to be her teenage mother, so that made my experience all the more awkward. The food wasn't too bad and it wasn't too good. Mediocre. Just went here with my boyfriend. Sat waiting to be even be acknowledged for over 10 mins. A car pulls up beside us and automatically they get service. As we say something to the waitress about it her only response is "its not my section." are you serious?? Never again
I ate here yesterday 4-11-2016 around 5:30 pm with my family and was not happy. Our food was cold sloppy and thrown together. The hamburgers were nasty . Bread was stale and old. Lettuce and tomatoes were bad. Fries limp and cold. There famous lime aid tasted like club soda with cut up lime. Not sweet at all. Served sandwiches in plastic wrap.
