Many believe that Abe Doumar, founder of Doumar's Cones & Barbecue, gave the world its first ice cream cone. Doumar was a traveling salesman retailing paperweights at the famous St. Louis World's Fair in 1904. When an ice cream seller exhausted his stock of paper dishes to hold the ice creams, he got a nearby waffle maker to roll his waffles into cones and thus invented the waffle cone. Great food and Service
My husband and I are in Virginia Beach this week for vacation. We have relatives who live in Norfolk and we we're visiting them one evening and afterwards we wanted ice cream. We googled ice cream places in Norfolk and found this place. What a gem! I had a delicious homemade cone with a scoop of butter pecan and a scoop of chocolate ice cream and my husband had a strawberry sundae. Delicious! For over 60 years I love Doumars -
This was our second time coming here. We went here three years ago because we saw it on diners drive-ins and dives. And it was amazing! We stopped here again on our way home from Massachusetts to Florida and still awesome!
