Excellent Service – Visited for the first time just recently. Our server, Carole, was the highlight of the visit with great recommendations and spectacular service. Food-wise, try the brisket--it's great.
Gets worse every time – This place constantly is rated #1 in the greater LA area, but I have no idea why. The food average, at best...and rather overpriced..
Okay, but not Texan – Hogly Wogly's food is serviceable, good if you're desperate to satisfy a barbeque jones. I don't think it's quite deserving of its reputation. Dr. Hogly Wogly's hasn't inspired me to end my quest for "real Texas barbeque" in the LA area, and I've managed to find much better all-around barbeque closer to home.
past experience – I vowed to never go back since I had a extremely rude waitress a few years ago. We were passing by and decided to have some ribs on the spur of the moment and happened to take a can of coke in with us. The waitress got extremely obnoxious and embarassed us in front of other customers about the coke. We got up and walked out! However, after many years, I took some out of town guest there since I knew there food was decent and found the waitress that served us was very delightful and helpful!!
Good food, Very high prices – I tried the Doc for the first time last night. We got the a pork and beef rib combo. It was about $20. While the portions were huge, I don't believe it's a good valve. Very overpriced. I thought the pork ribs were about average. Nothing great. The bbq sauce was terrible. Too sweet. But I loved beef ribs. Very good smoke flavor and the ribs had so much meat on them. I may go back to try the brisket.
I wasn't impressed – I had the beef sandwich since a couple of co-workers and I decided to go their for lunch. We were astonished at the prices first of all. The baked beans were good and they do give you a lot of meat. However, it was rather tasteless. I'd rather have quality than quantity. It was average. I would like to go back and try the chicken and the brisket that people have been recommending. That will have to come at another time though, when I'm able to splurge. I was disappointed at the amount of money I spent on... read more
Best BBQ in SoCal – My husband and I recently moved to Van Nuys from Santa Clarita. I previously lived in Ventura County. Hogly Wogly's is the best I have found anywhere! The food is spectacular and the service is good. I recommend eating in rather than take-out because the food is not as good when it isn't served to you piping hot and swimming in juice and sauce. Don't get me wrong, the take-out still beats the competition, but eat-in is the best. I highly recommend the brisket.
Great BBQ! – I went there with a friend from Texas, who was convinced that it was imposible to find good BBQ here in LA. After trying the food here, he completely changed his mind. Even though it's about 45 minutes away, we still go there often. Large portions, a great BBQ sauce, relatively cheap. Plus, you will get leftovers for at least another meal or two ...
Food A Side Dishes C – The meat is great, but the side dishes need major improvement.
