Reinstate Ames Mayfield, this is cruel and unfair.

Ames Mayfield is the kind of young citizen any organization should be proud to have. He asked his representative a serious and very important question. Not only was he shushed by his scout leader, but also removed? Shame on all of you. He should be reinstated to his troop and a new leader found.

Your recent actions are really far off the mark. That scout leader should be dismissed, the young man should be reinstated, and your group should apologize and stay ashamed for quite some time. And you should consider conducting sessions focused on rights and respect.

As the mom of an Eagle Scout I am saddened that your council allows the censorship of scouts learning about demoncracy in the respectful manner Ames affected with the Senator. This isn’t what scouting should be about. That leader projected his beliefs on that child. Freedom of speech still is one of our primary rights here and that child should know those politicians work for him. As well he was standing for the rights of the downtrodden- people he felt were being made less of, and those whom he felt he should protect. It so... read more

How dare you kick this child out for asking a question of an elected servant of the people? The behavior you are modeling is the exact opposite of that which the Boy Scouts purport to espouse. Shame on you!!!

How are our children supposed to learn how to be independent thinkers when we punish them for questioning the world around them? I don't particularly care who he was speaking with or what her particular attributes are: The Mr Mayfield was respectful, clear, concise, and genuinely concerned. He deserved to have his questions addressed, AND further more commended for using his brain and pointing out what he perceived as a logical fallacy. Shame on this organization for displaying such authoritarian values. This is an embarrass... read more

Surely there has got to be other reasons that Mr. Ames Mayfield was kicked out. There is no way its simply because he asked a political question(s) to a visiting politician. Please please tell me it's something else.

As the wife of an Eagle Scout, I'm beyond disappointed with the recent decisions the BSA as a whole has been making. Expelling a scout for asking a question about gun violence politely, while not responding AT ALL to the question asked very negatively about race, is very indicative of where your organization's values lie. Ames Mayfield needs to be offered the opportunity to be reinstated, if he and his parents decide that this organization if one they'd like to be associated with. So many scouts are making the decision again... read more
