This was a truly humbling experience. Walking in the footsteps of giants. The tour was absolutely incredible. Paul, our guide, was amazing. He shared his knowledge with enthusiasm and made the visit so interesting. The work of those slate miners in creating the huge caverns felt overwhelming. This is a 'must do' if in the area. Highly recommend.
Such a good tour of a slate mine! I live near to the black country so I've enjoyed a lot of coal mine tours and hadn't realised how different slate mines were. Our guide Paul was fantastic with so much information and answered every question with such detailed knowledge! Would absolutely recommend to anyone. Also the tunnels are wider than coal mines (because the bigger the slate chunk the more it is worth) which is good for anyone like me who are a bit uncomfortable in smaller spaces.
A very fun and informative activity to do, especially on a rainy day. Our tour guide, Paul, was incredibly knowledgeable and had a great sense of humour. Safety helmets, torches and wellies were all provided. Overall, a fantastic experience.
We booked in advance, and enjoyed an hour and a half touring this deep slate mine with (excellent) guide Paul. There are four steps to climb, and maybe half a mile of walking through mainly 2m x 2m tunnels. As we were the only guests, it was actually a private tour for my wife and I. The stories of the hard and dangerous work of 130-180 miners was really interesting. We had our questions answered during our visit to four chambers of the 84 in the mine.
