I ended a service with them on May 30th 2018. Received my final statement for $33.73. no big deal until they decided to send my final bill to a collection agency by the 13th of June 2018 without even contacting me once about my bill. I cant even believe that they did this that fast when people can go a couple months missing a bill until they even shut off services. In my opinion its very bad business practice and i hope this review helps make it so it does not happen to anyone else in the future.

Consumers is a crooked, money hungry company with no compassion for the disabled, elderly, or sick. They have repeatedly disconnected services knowing with medical documentation on the account that there is a woman in the home that is on oxygen. Last month our electric was disconnected twice in 3 weeks. we got them back on and 21 days exactly after we got them restored they shut them off again. we gave them nearly $500 just to owe them $534 3 weeks later. I didn't think it was legal for them to do that. But they can. The sta... read more

An absolute scam. I am being charged 3x what I was charged last year. There has been no changes in the household. If anything, I have tried harder to use LESS electricity and this is the result. I do not use our heaters, so the weather is not an excuse for this spike. I now owe $250 to consumers (normally $80), with this month showing as "on track" to be over $450. Absolutely ridiculous. They need to be investigated.

They shut off gas to my home without notice over a $70 amount that was carryover from the prior month. It is in the low 30 degrees here in Michigan currently and they did not so much as call, email, or write a letter - now I will be forced to freeze because their system was faulty. The people on the phone treated me as though i was a criminal, talking over me, claiming what I said was not true and speaking combatively. I have never in my life experienced such blatant lack of concern for a customer. The call center manager [P... read more

My bill has skyrocketed along with many other people in the area for no good reason. Last year was a colder winter yet this years rates have been far higher so there excuse of blaming the weather does not hold water.

Consumers Energy in Mid-Michigan is currently gouging their customers yet again. They claim a "longer than normal billing cycle" and "colder than normal temperatures" but people are seeing their bills double and even triple over the course of a single month. These are not isolated issues - there are literally TENS of THOUSANDS of complaints at this point throughout Michigan. So much so that Consumers is ONCE AGAIN being investigated by the Energy Policy Commission; the same group that fined the company over $500,000 not long... read more

I left my residence and in the process of moving out and relocating across the country, I called Consumers Energy to close my account. They refused to back date my bill to the date I moved and insisted I be billed for days I was not a resident after providing proof of leaving. They were awful to work with and refused to discuss the matter.
