Despite not being known for its food, this East Village restaurant and bar has been a neighborhood favorite for over 20 years. Stained glass windows collected from churches around the world line the walls in the cozy indoor seating area of Cloister Cafe. Outside, a splendid garden complete with a fountain and tiny overhead lights makes for a perfect romantic late night snack or nightcap. Their desserts and hot drinks are tasty and decadent. It is also a great choice for weekend brunch. Popular entrees include filet mignon, c... read more

Cute place with lots of outdoor space. It's a nice place to chill on a summer night. The scent of hookah smoke wafted throughout the area.
Perfect for the summer. Enjoying a smoke outside in the nice weather, fun music playing, drinks, good company, waiters don't bother you too much = good time. There's a 1-drink minimum and it's not bad. I had their cafe au lait one time and it's pretty good! Their calamari is pretty good too! Last time my friend and I got it mid-smoke and it was a good snack cause we got pretty hungry hah.
This is one of our favorite brunch places. A hidden gem. Even friends living in the East Village hadn't come across it. Good value for money, Bloody Mary and coffee included, and you can sit outside under lovely green vines. There are not many places in Manhattan where you can dine like this outside. We like it. The staff change frequently, which means you wont get to know them and given they are students sometimes it could be better. Note: we do brunch here, we have not done dinner or just drinks.
I really enjoyed cloister cafe! i came in just for drinks + hookah and I had a great time. The hookah was nice, the staff was really friendly and wasn't bothersome... I ended up staying and just hanging/talking for a while! The decor was beautiful, the atmosphere really laid back....
I was visiting my Aunt & Uncle in NYC with my 2 sister's and wanted to take them for dinner. They suggested the Cloister Cafe and I am glad they did. The service was great and the food was amazing. We had 2 apps, 5 entres, a bottle of wine and beer and it only came to $125.00! The chicken marsala was perfection and the rib appetizer was to die for. I highly recommend this restaurant.
I went there with a friend and we had breakfast. He was very pleased with his french toast and I thought my omelette was really good.
I like to come here and enjoy some hookah. It is $20 for 4 people and they have tons of flavors. There is also a 1 min. beverage charge but that is nothing. I just got an iced mint tea to go with my hookah. The hookah lasted 2 hours without changing the coal.
This place has amazing food, very alcoholy drinks, and decent hookah. The best thing about the hookah is that it lasts. 4 hours is the current record with me, and that's with several (free) coal changes. Their flavor selection isn't the widest, but among the offerings there are some gems. Try mixing Jasmine and Honey for something smooth. Mix Rose and Mint for strong, heavy smoke. 3 Berry is all right as well. I am in love with all of the duck dishes here. Roasted over couscous is my favorite. They also have a heavenly sweet... read more
Awesome hookah lounge! Relaxing music, Apple Mint hookah, and try the Nutty Monk martini.
