About this business

Despite not being known for its food, this East Village restaurant and bar has been a neighborhood favorite for over 20 years. Stained glass windows collected from churches around the world line the walls in the cozy indoor seating area of Cloister Cafe. Outside, a splendid garden complete with a fountain and tiny overhead lights makes for a perfect romantic late night snack or nightcap. Their desserts and hot drinks are tasty and decadent. It is also a great choice for weekend brunch. Popular entrees include filet mignon, c... read more

I LOVE CLOISTER! Have been here a good number of times and have always been satisfied. Okay so. Here are some things to note about Cloister: 1. It has a large outdoor section which is PERFECT for the current New York summer weather. Came here with a friend yesterday; we were both in comfortable summer clothing, it wasn't too hot nor cold (there was a light breeze), hookah was delicious-smelling, drinks were nice and cold, it wasn't too loud etc etc etc...super chill and SERIOUSLY a great way to spend a summer night. 2. Recently went here with my boyfriend for a relaxing saturday night dinner/hookah. We absolutely loved it! The outdoor seating sets a good atmosphere and the food is delicious, I am a calamari fiend so I ordered the calamari with sweet and spicy thai sauce..it was even better than the calamari I've had fresh from Boston!

So, I hadn't been here in obviously a long time, since I didn't even know there's a hookah bar portion now! And also the food selection now includes all kinds of stuff, besides Italian, including Asian fare. I enjoyed my food, service was great, especially our server, Kristina, was amazing!!

I like Cloister because I am so confused by what it is but I love the fact it has hookah and cakes! What an interesting combination.
