Despite not being known for its food, this East Village restaurant and bar has been a neighborhood favorite for over 20 years. Stained glass windows collected from churches around the world line the walls in the cozy indoor seating area of Cloister Cafe. Outside, a splendid garden complete with a fountain and tiny overhead lights makes for a perfect romantic late night snack or nightcap. Their desserts and hot drinks are tasty and decadent. It is also a great choice for weekend brunch. Popular entrees include filet mignon, c... read more

A COME BACK PLACE!!!! – "On my way out for a night in wburg, I was riding my fixed gear through the east village, and what to my surprise but I get a text from a dear friend who's hanging out nearby. I lock up my bike, and pop in for a quick hello. They were smoking some great sheesha, and plenty of hugs all around. There is a *lot* of outdoor space here, which is nice, and that also means smoking is allowed. I kind of enjoy that. The hookahs are fancy and colorful so if you're looking for more grit, go to Karma or Khufu. I ... read more
Great Place With Friends – I love this place! It is always so fun and it is a great place to bring friends.
Really great cafe. The service was exceptional.
This was some good sangria! – We ordered a pitcher of sangria (we're picky...this was some good sangria!), fried calamari (came with great sauce, I appreciate a deviation from the good old regular marinara), fried zucchini (again great deviation from the regular mayonnaise type of sauce it is normally served with), some sort of salad with strawberries...and pasta. Price was under 40$!!!
Means a lot these days. – Knowing there's a place in the city where I can go sit on a bar's patio and have a cigarette means a lot these days.
It's a fine stop for appetizers and cocktails, and the patio is lovely in the summer.
This place is great this time of year. Sit outside enjoying a drink and a smoke. What's better?
Not bad ! – hooka wasnt that bad for my first time not bad my friends say....
Alway Good – I have eaten here a few times and the food was always good. We never had the pasta so I can not comment on what the others said. I had the lamb and my boyfriend had the steak and it was very good. We had the snails as an appetizer and they were also enjoyable but they took a little long. No one can complain about the atmosphere....
