Despite not being known for its food, this East Village restaurant and bar has been a neighborhood favorite for over 20 years. Stained glass windows collected from churches around the world line the walls in the cozy indoor seating area of Cloister Cafe. Outside, a splendid garden complete with a fountain and tiny overhead lights makes for a perfect romantic late night snack or nightcap. Their desserts and hot drinks are tasty and decadent. It is also a great choice for weekend brunch. Popular entrees include filet mignon, c... read more

Well prepared food – What a pleasure to have well-prepared food in a quiet green zone.
We love it here – I took my best friend here one night and we make is out date night. We loved the service and the atmosphere is great.
Love this place – I love this place. I have only been here in the summer, but I LOVE their garden. It is just so peaceful and amazing to sit there sipping some wine and smoking some deliciously flavored hookah. I recommend strawberry and watermelon. Sure, it's a little on the pricier side if you compare to most hookah bars but this one has a uniquely relaxing atmosphere thanks to it's garden.
Great Food Great Service – I was visiting my Aunt & Uncle in NYC with my 2 sister's and wanted to take them for dinner. They suggested the Cloister Cafe and I am glad they did. The service was great and the food was amazing. We had 2 apps, 5 entres, a bottle of wine and beer and it only came to $125.00! The chicken marsala was perfection and the rib appetizer was to die for. I highly recommend this restaurant. Anne Marie from Ontario
Most Amazing Enviroment – probably the most amazing environment you will find in nyc, the most beautiful garden setting perfect for a date or just friends coming to hang out and on top of that they have hookah making it that much better... if you go make sure you try to get Marc for your server, he is absolutely the best server there and he will take care of your every need also make sure you say hello and meet the manager Jerry he is the man and will take care of your future visits.. we've started making this an every night... read more
Great Relaxes Envirmonent – Excellent service! And I am the waiter hater. They were attentive, and also allowed us our space. Food was amazing at a very affordable price! We had 3 appetizers and the spinach salad. I am very happy that I chose to try this place and that I didn't listen to all the reviews. This a place where you should come if you have an hour. Not a place to come to if you need something faster. Great relaxed environment.
APOCALYPSE – Dear fellow New Yorkers & Visitors of NYC, I have never written a review of any sort for any service.. until this place got my unwithering attention. I hope this signals the seriousness of my intent to put an end to this madness. FOOD..... Hogwash. Never tasted anything so repulsive. Pasta, Seafood, Poultry... you name it. Even the wine tasted terrible (no joke) SERVICE..... Seen more excitement at the morgue. Walking dead. Couldn't get any worse. Should have left $0 tip, but didn't want any drones chasing me AT... read more
Great Atmosphere, Awful Food/Service – Resist the temptation - dont go here. Seriously. I've lived in the area for almost 6 years and eaten here twice. Both were awful experiences and 3 years apart. I dont know why I gave it a second chance, but seriously dont know how they stay in business. The service is ridiculously slow, the food is always cold and tastes terrible, and when I complained they gave me MAJOR attitude. I think they're use to it and that's why they didnt even attempt to make good or remove charges for drinks ... read more
It looks cute, but don't waste your time!!!! – I don’t ever know where to start with this review. Have lived in NYC for a few years and hands down worst experience we have ever had dining out. We had walked by this place a few weeks ago and thought next time we are in the area we would drop in for diner. The atmosphere is nice and it’s open and we were sat right away. We also did get our drinks and order taken pretty quickly. I began to realize that it was taking a long time for our salads. I think I lost track of time since... read more
