Speaking from the perspective of both a student and the parent of children that are students, I can not say enough positive things about CJJA. We have been regulars at the academy for over five years, during that time Mickey and all of the instructors have been nothing short of amazing. Mickey is the best and most technical instructor I have ever had! His focus on the details and fundamentals is incredible and separates him from most black belts. As a reference.. I've been training for 9 years and had 6 different instructors. I wish I still lived there just to train with Mickey.
Mickey is very helpful and you get the feeling that he loves what he does and it isn't money that drives what he does. Great instructor and great place to train!

I train at another gym that I love. I know some of the guys at Chattanooga Jiu Jitsu Academy including owner Mickey. I was in Georgia at a competition an in a bad technical situation. I heard Mickey stop his conversation so he could help Ken (me). He came close and coached me back to safety. We only meet a few times before that and I never trained under him. Nevertheless, his precise instructions shaved me from having to tap or nap. His calm and detail intruction is what one should seek when looking for an instructor.
Family friendly atmosphere, professional instructors, perfect Jiujutsu. If you are the least bit interested in learning a practical, effective martial art walk into the Chattanooga Jiujutsu Academy. You will not be disappointed.
I'm fortunate enough to have trained at Chattanooga Jiu Jitsu Academy for the past 7+ years under Mickey Swafford. His teaching style and knowledge of self defense are outstanding. From the moment I started I was hooked. The people there are like family to me now. I couldn't see myself training anywhere else. If you are visiting the wonderful city of Chattanooga and train Jiu Jitsu, come by and enjoy great teaching and kind people.
This place has changed my life over the last 3 years. Mickey and his instructors teach real self defense application, situational awareness, and how to communicate in a stressful situation. The value of the training both children and adults receive is priceless.
