I have found this company's practices to be highly questionable and deceptive. Not only do they provide inaccurate billing, but they also repeatedly attribute all fees to Oncore and a "delivery" charge. Despite rarely being home and keeping the AC set at 73 degrees when I am home, my bill continues to increase. They advertise "free weekends," and I avoid using appliances like the washer until after 8 pm, yet the costs do not reflect these supposed savings. To terminate the service, the company requires a $250 fee, which seem... read more

Business response:

Thanks for sharing about your experience. Please keep in mind that the number one driver of electricity usage is air conditioning. Even in an empty house, outdoor temperatures impact your overall costs because it can cause the AC to work harder and kick on more frequently to remove humidity and cool the air. You may not be changing the thermostat inside but if the outdoor temps are higher the AC works harder to maintain the cooler indoor temps, which would increase your usage. The data reported in the weekly Smart Track emai... read more

Predatory practices and advertising to make you think that you are getting a good deal. The cancelation fee was $300 and I had to pay a hefty amount every month WITH SOLAR PANELS. Do not fall for it. Go to another company that is upfront and actually gives you fair payment for solar power.

Business response:

Courtney, sorry to hear you were dissatisfied with the index wholesale solar buyback program Champion Energy offers. Our solar buyback is offered on any of our electricity plans and unlike other retail electricity providers we do not charge a higher energy rate, a monthly fee, or limit the buyback to the amount you consume. Your electricity contract was through 2/22/2026. When you terminated the service early you were charged a $250 early termination fee, which is not unique to Champion. We hope the new provider you selected... read more

I am a new customer from Lubbock. My service doesn't begin until next month. Never the less, I just want to say that during this sign-up period, the Champion reps have gone over and above to get me the best deal possible. I am completely satisfied at this point. I have recommended Champion to several friends and family.

Business response:

Thanks for choosing Champion Energy and for sharing your experience. We love the opportunity to thank and celebrate our customer care team. This feedback will be shared with our teams. They use fraudulent and predatory practices to get customers to sign up. The representative literally lied to get me to sign up. They attract people in stores by giving them gift cards and not telling people they are signing a long term contract with high cancellation fees. They gave me no paperwork when I signed up it was done through a tablet. Then they sent a recording of a call that was not the complete call but clearly edited. Do not use this company!

Business response:

Natasha, thank you for providing Champion with your feedback. The actions you describe are inconsistent with Champion’s business practices as neither Champion nor Champion’s third-party marketers offer gift cards and neither typically perform in-person enrollments. Please contact commercialcare@champion.energy to provide us with more information about your interaction so that we can better understand your experience and take the necessary steps to ensure Champion’s practices are being followed? We appreciate your assistance.

I am very disappointed in Champion energy and how much my bill has risen these past few months. During the summer my bill used to be $150- $200 and now it is around $400- $650. When I called to set up a payment plan, I was denied because my bill was not past due yet. I was forced to wait until it was overdue, and I called again to set up a payment plan but was denied. Stated that my bill was past due and that I needed to wait until I got a disconnection letter. Again, being forced to wait again I called again when I got the ... read more

Business response:

Ana, sorry to hear you are having difficulty paying your electricity bill. When you renewed in 2022, rates were higher. Texas also experienced above average temps all summer long. This was followed by a delivery rate increase from Oncor and other transmission and distribution utilities (TDU). These factors all contribute to higher total cost of power for many customers. Notes on your account indicate our customer care agents did discuss ways to get you on a lower rate plan as well as explain how the Deferred Payment Plan (DP... read more

Locked in an obscene rate last year at peak, predatory numbers and as Texas burns in triple digits this year, this bill has been vulgar. Absolutely vulgar. I have never paid this for electricity in my life and I never will again (and neither will anymore I know). When I complained, I was presented with scammy, predatory options that were designed to bully poor people into extending contracts just to avoid a $250 early termination fee (which is an usually high fee when compared with other companies) or escape garbage contract... read more

I was enrolled in the Solar buy back program and found that champion charged me the full price for my electricity overs but in the buyback program the price they paid me for the energy I produced fluctuated from between 5:00 and 9 cents a kilowatt hour. my electricity bills shot up. I was producing electricity and putting it into the grid and they were getting my energy and then paying me a pittance for it. when I call to complain the people I spoke with were very unkind and when I canceled they slapped me with a $350 cancel... read more

Business response:

Miles, thanks for sharing your honest feedback. We've always tried to be clear that our solar buyback program is not a 1-to-1 buyback. This means what you pay for consumption is different than the credit you receive for the surplus generation that is returned to the grid. Our priority is and always will be to offer competitive rates for purchasing electricity. We do not offer solar plans that include a monthly fee or add a premium to the consumption rate, like other plans in the market that include a fixed rate buyback amou... read more

I came to Champion from *******, and not only did I get a $50 discount my second month, but there have been no surprise charges or hidden fees. Rates have gone up but my bill has not doubled as other companies did. I will be here a while. Use my code to get your discount! ****************************************

Business response:

Thank you for sharing your experience and welcome to Champion Energy. We are pleased to earn your trust and are happy you are taking advantage of the connect-a-friend referral program. Please continue to share your referral ID with friends and family. Thanks!

This company charges me late fees even if my account is current and is on autopay. Customer Service of this company is extremely rude. I will be looking for new service elsewhere.

Business response:

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. You were charged a late fee when your auto pay was declined due to NSF (non-sufficient funds). As a one-time goodwill gesture, we will waive the late fee. A supervisor left you a message if you would like to discuss further. Thanks, Champion Energy
