About this business

Everything here says come on in and relax. Green plaid carpeting, dark wood furniture, potted plants and comfortable booths make this the place to come home to. Thick, juicy steaks, surf and turf (known here as "Tide & Tundra"), and lamb and pork chops are the standard fare. Baked Brie with Raspberry Coulis and Toasted Almonds is about as fancy as it gets. If you bide your time just waiting for dessert, the Mile-High Chocolate Suicide Cake for two does not disappoint. After dinner, enjoy a nightcap in the cigar-friendly Tave... read more

I've eaten here off and on for years ... it's going downhill. The first thing that greats you now is the inspection rating of something like 93.4. Uggh. The menu's getting smaller, the food is more expensive (they went to a more a la carte menu; it used to be inclusive). Anyhow, there are better places to go.

service was marginal, food was worse – I took 3 co-workers here based on word of mouth. We were seated promptly, however it took upwards of 15 to 20 minutes for someone to even greet us at the table. When they did, we ordered drinks and an appetizer. The drinks came and the appetizer was great! when we ordered lunch, the salad was not brought before the meal. Portions were quite small. i got the Chicken and it was very over cooked. one of my co-workers ordered the steak sandwich and the steak was very tough. while the reputa... read more

Good atmosphere/ Poor service – We recently visited this restuarant. Service was good until food came out. One of our steaks was cooked incorrectly as a result of the waiter misunderstanding the order. The order was for medium rare and not medium well. The waiter got extremely upset and stormed off. At first, he acted as if we should just keep the steak that came out. Well, if you are paying this price for a steak, you expect it to be right. In the meantime of that steak being re-cooked, we had empty glasses. I actually went... read more

IT'S STILL THE BEST!!! – I;ve eaten at the Capital City Chop House a number of times and have always loved it. Take anyone visiting there for special dinners and each and every one of them has loved it as much as I have. When I went on their website earlier this week to make reservations I read a number of the reviews. I was extremely surprised that many were negative. I'll agree that restaurants do change, however, couldn't imagine that since my last time there the CCCH could have changed to the degree that many of the revi... read more

Capital City Chop House past it's Prime – Sadly, this is a restaurant in decline. I wrote them in October about their French fries. Fries are frozen and on par with something you could get from Food Lion. Apparently, they did not care. For almost $100 per I expect hand cut fresh fries. We poled our party of 12 and to the person they said "card board". Bad enough that they did not fix this, their replacement creamed spinach I would not serve at my house. Their big fillet for $35. was cooked to perfection. Except it was dry an... read more

Quality and Service Poor – We received a gift card to go have a steak at The Chop House, so we went this evening. We were so excited because we had heard great things but the restaurant is a bit beyond our means. I ordered a medium-rare Porterhouse. It arrived incredibly over-cooked. The waiter agreed and took it back. The next one was blue-raw. The manager came to see us and offered a $7.00 dessert for my $45 steak that I could not eat. The waiter explained that its difficult to cook a steak on the bone... YOU'RE A STEAK HO... read more

STUFFED POTATO – In response to the group unhappy with the elimination of the stuffed potato-- your unhappiness was clearly biased. We continue to return to this restaurant despite of its menu changes, because of it's consistent quality. You obviously are judging our most favorite spot irrationally!!!!! We listened to you decide that nothing would be right if you could not have what you came for. GET A CLUE! Are you really a doctor? Your judgement is questionable.

Used to be soo good- not anymore – One used to be able to get a great dinner for a reasonable price. Now, the salads are not included with the entree. And, to make matters worse, they removed the best twice baked potato from the menu! How could you remove a signature item from the menu??!! We used to visit Chop House frequently. I dont think we'll be going there anymore. Bummer~

Not Worth the Price – I went in anticipation of a great steak. It was over cooked and had no flavor. For $26.00 it only came with one side item, I chose flavorless mashed potatoes!!! My husband had already eaten, so just came along to keep me company. When my husband told the waiter he was not ordering, when my food came out the waiter tried to give my husband a plate so that we could share my meal. I thought my husband was going to deck him! I guess the fact that my husband did not order, implied to this waiter that we coul... read more
