Great Experience – This place is great, so mellow. great ambiance, amazing wine list and great service. love the decor and the staff was really friendly. had the atlantic halibut and it was cooked perfectly. would highly recommend this great spot for all kinds of events, dates, dinner with the rents. it's just an all around sweet spot....
Utterly disappointing – Visited Bouley this week for the first time. Service was poor; waiters were slow and unpleasant. The food was below average. It lacked both the flavor and the presentation. The best part of the food was their bread. Afterward I was left with severely upset stomach. One more thing, the place does not look clean and in fact there is a distinct fishy odor in the air. I will never go back.
Waiters screwed us up!! – While I will say that the food was extraordinary and gets 5 stars, at the end of the meal an extremely frustrating event occured. Therefore, my rating is unfortunately reduced to 2 stars. After a fulfilling and pleasant meal, the waiter brought a bill which included the items we ordered (2 tasting menus, 1 mineral water, 1 bottle wine) along with extra items (embedded into our other items on the receipt) that we had not ordered (2 beef soups, 2 wine pairings, 2 teas, etc). How could this happen?? Wa... read more
One of the best in New York – We came here for dinner with a reservation. As we opened the door, the smell of fresh fruit put us in a good mood. The mood was then somewhat spoiled by the long wait for our table. Once we sat down, however, everything was prefect. The service was impeccable and the food was delicious. We had the sea bass and the lamb. Both were prefect, if a bit on the small side. The deserts were delicious. Overall, I consider this one of the top restaurants in New York. It is also one of the few top restaura... read more
beautiful french dining – went to bouley for a special occasion - had a very enjoyable time. The dining room was lovely and the staff was very accommodating. The tasting menu was very good - and I appreciated them modifying it for my taste. The fish was incredible. Some things were a little bit over-buttered for my taste - the mashed potatoes, for example, were basically sticks of butter with some potato flavoring. The wine was good, although the wine list was very expensive and difficult to get a bottle *that was good* for ... read more
My favorite restaurant – Wow! I was surprised to read some of the recent reviews when this has been my favorite (and birthday tradition) restaurant for 4 ys. in a row. I love Bouley! Once again, we did the 4 course tasting menu w/ the wine pairing (by far the best wine pairing from all the top notch restaurants). We even asked our waiter if we could add in a 5th course (foie gras) since it wasn't one of the options on the tasting menu. Though I will say that it wasn't full of flavor and slightly under-cooked (and trust me, I... read more
Very mediocre and disappointing - terrible service!!!!!! – Ambience - poor. There were so many suited waiters and managers running around they were literally bumping into one another and hovering . Also, right next to our table was what looked like an end table with a large plant on it. But they used it to store menus in a drawer so all evening they were opening and closing the drawer to retrieve and put away menus. And, they stored half empty bottles of water and wine on top. It was very busy, distracting, and unappealing t... read more
barf...i mean bouley – i had a pleasant enough evening. however, later that night i was stricken with violent food "illness". i had to go the hospital where it was determined that the food "illness" that led me to the waste bin many times was caused by the mushroom salad i had eaten at bouley the night before. i know for a fact this is the case because prior to my meal at bouley, I had not eaten all day. so, I rang the restaurant as a courtesy to let the manager know I had fallen ill from the mushroom salad. I am surprised t... read more
Definitely NOT worth the price of admission! – I love French. But this was over-the-top to the point of tragic fall. (Be ready for digestive issues - e.g., mashed potatoes puree = stick of salty butter with potato flecks added.) One appetizer was very good. Nothing was excellent. Atmosphere was very charming. Service was very good, not excellent. Ok. So why am I not recommending it? Because for the price you can do infinitely better in NYC. The real insult was the wine list. A two star restaurant with a mediocre wine list is... read more
