For almost two centuries the hotel has offered hospitality to locals and visitors alike. It began life in 1816 as a simple boarding house for summer visitors to one of America's earliest seaside resorts. Its owner, Thomas H. Hughes, called his new boarding house "The Big House". We walked over from the to have breakfast at 8:30 am the place was empty there were 7 empty tables on the porch and like 10 empty tables in the dining room. So we said 2 for breakfast and the very rude girl at the front desk said they had nothing for us until 2:00 pm!! I guess they would rather leave the tables empty than seat us. Cape May Restaurant week(end) menu was great! Staff was very professional while maintaining a neighborhood atmosphere. Fried oysters, steak and bread pudding for a 3 course meal at $35. 5/5 recommend.
