Good Vet, bad front desk service – I think Dr. Melcon is a very competent vet, and I recommend her. the downside is the front desk staff. they are young and often rude. I don't understand how such a good vet has such a terrible staff. the parking is also difficult. but if you are looking for a good vet, she may well be worth the downsides.
Excellent Vets – I've taken my pets to Marina Pet Hospital for more than 25 years and in my experience they're a good animal hospital. I was surprised to see the bad reviews - although I can't argue with the comments about the front desk staff. The veterinarians at Marina are uniformly excellent. Their health insurance is a bargain. It's cheaper than any other pet insurance I've looked at ($150/year for my 11 year old dog) and it's saved me money every year. I've recommended it to lots of other pet owners. If you can overloo... read more
Dr. Melcon knows her stuff!! – I have taken my dog to Dr. Melcon for eighteen months. My first encounters with her were when she attended to his medical needs after being attacked by another dog. She immediately noticed the medication given to me by the ER was unsafe to manage my (breed of) dog's pain. She carefully listened to my concerns and offered advice as to follow up care. He is now healed and re-socialized with other dogs after having been "quarantined" for weeks following the injury to avoid infection. The insurance... read more
When I took my cat in they tried to sell me "insurance" and pushed very hard for it. They seemed more concerned with me getting that then with my cat. I had billing problems 2 times with them. After they told me it was resolved it showed up on my credit report and took me forever to get it off. Then I recently got a bill in the mail for cat food I puchased and paid cash for. To resolve it they said if the girl who helped me remembered me then I wouldn't have to pay for it, AGAIN. Not great customer service.
Nothing special, overly pricey – I spent a great deal of time on the phone prior to choosing Marina Pet Hotel to verify that the item I needed (a microchip implantation for travel of pet to Europe) was available. After assurances by staff over phone that they had what I needed, I arrived to the dingy waiting room (circa 1972). The doctor was thorough and pleasant, however, she then apologized for not actually having the chip in stock!!! Resulting in delay in my trip/ increased stress at having to locate another vet/ wasting ... read more
Excellent Care for Your Pet – I've been taking my pets to Marina Pet Hospital since 1980 and have always been pleased with the outstanding care and referrals my pets receive. After a recent experience with a stray cat and her kittens, I cannot say enough great things about these folks. The entire staff went way above and beyond with care, advice, and maximizing value. Yes, the front desk staff could use some polishing, but they all love animals and the vets are outstanding. They're not cheap, but offer a good insurance plan,... read more
this place is dreadful. – With all the wonderful, beautiful pet hospitals in the city, I don't see why anyone would take their pets ( and their money) to the Marina Pet Hospital on Lombard Street. I walked in for the first time in August 2005 and the counter girl/supervisor/nurse type person remained sitting at her desk across the room, staring at me and expecting me to shout my business to her. The whole staff consisted of inconvenienced girls who'd rather talk amongst themselves instead making their customers feels welcome... read more
Great clinic! – I have been taking my dogs to Marina Pet Hospital for 4 years and I have had nothing but good experiences with them. The vets are fantastic. They have connections with UC Davis and leading specialists all over the Bay Area. Their in house insurance plan is a total bargain. It cuts the price for most services in half. The staff is always loving towards my dogs. They are open 7 days a week and I can usually get an appointment same day. Marina Pet Hospital is great.
won't take my Mocha there again – I took my dog in for the annual check up and vaccinations. I arrived on time, but waited for another 20 minutes before got to see the vet. The vet didn't introduce herself and didn't really EXAM my dog while I was telling her my Mocha's condition. Everything was done QUICKLY at the back room. The clinic is small and old and the staff is not too friendly and seems unprofessional. Just don't feel they love the animals.
