Initially came to post about my horrific experience with Avis and decided to also read what others are experiencing. Wow! Avis, what is going on? Do you need money so badly that you are willing to defraud your customers to get it? Looks like you are using many of the same tactics over and over again - the hustle you tried to pull on me is the full tank one. This is unbelievable! Awful. Rented in Moneray ca and asked employee to change my return location from Sonoma to San Fransisco. He told me not to worry, just return the car to San Fran , no big deal. I just got charged a change fee of $1000.00!! Called Avis and they said why did you trust what someone said , should have gotten it in writing.

In regards to the aforementioned BBB complaint, you confirmed your reservation to pick up your vehicle at the Monterey Airport and to return the vehicle to the Santa Rosa Airport at an assigned rate. By way of explanation the one way fee for returning the vehicle to an alternative location is due to the fact that Avis manages its fleet at the local level often using the nearest airport as a distribution hub for outlying facilities in the area. The car was not clean. Goldfish and crumbs throughout the car and under the seats. A full pack of crackers from a flight still in the car. Not to mention we didn't even take the car on our planned trip because supposedly there is a stipulation that you cannot drive the rental across the Mississippi River or it is a 250 dollar charge. Got ripped off. Cancelled my reservation - they told me they are keeping ALL my money, $250!!! When I asked how you can charge for a service without rendering it, I was told "It's called commitment, sir! You gave us a commitment!" Rude customer service, high rates. TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE!! NEVER RENT FROM AVIS!!!!

We booked our reservation at the Denver airport (8/1-8/5 2021) almost 2 months in advance. When we arrived, our vehicle wasn't available. We were offered a vehicle with a $30 upgrade (with tax and fees over $200 unexpected fee) We accepted it so we could move on with our trip. True, the vehicle was great, but they should of ate the upgrade cost because it was their fault, not ours.

Do not use them!!! Not BBB certified. Car broke down in the driveway. It took 10 plus hours just to get ahold of a representative. During this time my calls would get answered by actual people and then I would be hung up on. The car had to be towed away. The tow truck took 6 hours to get to us. After being forced to take an SUV when I had booked a car, the rear tire pressure light came on 15 miles from the rental facility, when I checked the tire it had only 20psi in it. The next day I was stopped at a light when a woman pulled up next to me to tell me my muffler was bouncing around. It had broken off on one side and so I had to tie it up with wire so I could drive the car. I usually do not write reviews, but feel I need to this time. I rent vehicles (usually an SUV) from Avis once per month. The last several experiences have been problematic. First, I am preferred, that means the vehicle should be waiting for me upon arrival. This has not been the case. I have had to wait a very long time (up to two hours in line and then waiting for a vehicle to be "brought up"). Then, the vehicle is not at all what I reserved. Would give 0 starts if we could. ***************** cancelled flight and we called to extend rental 1 day (technically less than a day but they charge by the day). We were given a quote ($337.64) of twice the daily rate we had paid for the week even though their website states an extension will be charged at the rate of the rental agreement.
