Staying at Alston hall over seven nights rapidly went downhill for our group from day three onwards after the boiler stopped working therefore no heating and no hot water to take a shower, the owner tried to resolve the problem but that never materialised throughout the rest of the week. Currently under renovation by new owners. However despite a new expensive high-tech, high-spec kitchen (which is not easy to use and certainly not up to catering for a large number of people) and new windows throughout, the rest of the house is still very shabby. The house is literally in the middle of nowhere; the roads all around it are single track with high banks and hedges. Not good for those who are not confident reversers!
