Relaxing mani/pedi – Had a great mani/pedi at Acqua. Nail treatments were relaxing and the spa atmosphere is very nice and extremely clean. They also have a great selection of magazines to read and interesting beauty/spa products for sale. Enjoyed the gratis parafin mani treatment for winter.
Don't waste your money on this place – I have visited several and each with varying results. The last time I went, I had to wait for 35 minutes at 8:00 at night because they were backed up. But I had made the appointment less that 30 minutes before and they we well aware of this and did not tell me when I called. Then the actual manicure/pedicure was average at best. average massage experience – since i had a gift certificate, i decided to try the swedish massage despite the negative citysearch comments. when i called, the receptionist was very pleasant. my massage therapist was good; however, the environment wasn't the best for a massage. The room was indeed a bit cold (the therapist later explained it was cold because it was not one of the massage rooms but instead a water therapy room). bad experience – I went to Acqua Beauty Bar for a couples massage. It was a terrible massage in a cold room. After the massage, my husband and I wanted a few minutes alone but they kept interrupting us to get us out of the room. I will never go back and never recommend this spa to anyone. With all these bad reviews, how does it get a 9.0 rating?
good for me! – i received a gift certificate & was almost scared to use it based on these reviews! the front desk treated me well, despite my middle class pigtails & tattoos. i then had the botanical facial with their esthetician, Dorota. my skin is absolutely clean, soft & glowing. no crazed product pitch, just one Sonya Dakar scrub which i agreed to needing & bought. the facial room was really vibey & relaxing. i also had my over grown au natural browes waxed by a woman named June. we both declared, they are perfect!! i'd ... read more
it's not just calm down spa! – just calm down spa blows this place off the radar scale!! My friend bought me a gift certificate for a pedicure and manicure which was ordinary, sloppy and not too much fun! I expected a beautiful setting and it just felt like any old nail salon. The staff was aloof and unfriendly and not very knowledgeable about any of the services. Sorry kids, just calm down will remain my second home!
RUDE STAFF – The people who complaind about the rude staff are correct. The 2 girls at the front were unfriendly and unaccommodating the minute you walk in the door. While I was waiting 1/2 hour for a pedicure, they were reading a magazine and basically forgot about me. They must be related to the owner - that's the only reason I can think why she keeps them around...I wouldn't want them working in my spa. There are plenty of other good places in NYC who are happy to have you!!
Try the waxing - w/Bimala – I usually get my legs waxed there. Ask for Bimala - she's very good and fast. Plus - she's nice. The woman at the desk is rude and nasty. Someone should teach her about customer service. When she is giving you your bill - make sure she hasn't over charged you. She tried to 2x with me, only b/c she wasn't listening. She needs to 1) not be so rude - b/c we are paying her salary and 2) learn to listen to what a customer is saying.
You have to be kidding . . . – I found this place on internet as the best couple's massage. Far from it. They offer a special on their website for a couple's stone massage. I called and booked this and mentioned that I found the special on their website. The massage was okay a bit to hard for my liking, especially because it was suppose to be romantic.
