I have been an Ackerman Security customer since August, and it has not been an easy nor pleasant process. First off, my appointment with the initial salesman had been canceled last minute after I left work early. Once we finally met and set up a time to have the installer come in, I took more time off for the installation and they didn't show. Ackerman made an $89.99 un-authorized withdraw from my bank account for a free service call, immediately after the service call. When I called they admitted their mistake and said they would put the money back and claim the authorized the refund the same day. I have made multiple calls and they are now blaming it on their bank. Still waiting -- getting ready to file charges for electronic theft.

Akerman Security: If all you want is a discount for your insurance company, Akerman is for you. If you want customer service, look elsewhere. Akerman is not a good company. There customer service is terrible. They are readily available when they want to sell you something; try contacting them with a problem. Read the "fine print"! I tried to cancel my service. No idea how BBB rates Ackerman Security Systems A+. They're Fail-Minus in my book. Wish there were minus-stars but I had to give them a one. I signed a three-year contract in good faith. I had two equipment failures in less than one year. The first was covered by warranty. The second, they claimed, was caused by lightning and would be my expense. What lightning? Terrible company, stay away. From extremely pushes sales people to making it ridiculously difficult to cancel the service, this business stinks. They would not let me cancel unless I completed their form and physically mailed it to them which is an obvious attempt to make it too difficult for people to cancel and maybe Ackerman gets a couple more days of billings. Email was not acceptable, must be snail made. Total bull and not someone I would do business with ever again.

I was misled by the first representative. I was told that, if I signed a 3 year agreement and moved before the agreement ended that the contract would cancel. When we moved and I tried to cancel, the representative told me I was obligated to pay the remaining year.

Fraud Alert.... beware, you can never exit this service. It cost me $276 to cancel my service because I need to notify them 60 day before the policy automatically renews annually. The salesman never explain this to me, only the 3 years contract. I've been a customer since January 2011 and after my first 3 years, I've been trying to cancel with no seccess. They have changed the monthly fee and changed their service to a machine that calls instead of an operator which is a breach to their contract. I was also told that they do... read more

I moved out of state and was charged the full balance remaining on my contract. That wasn't necessarily the main issue. I could not get anyone to show me in the contract where the fees were. I assumed it was all a bad mistake and if I could just talk to someone, we could straighten it out. That's when they stopped talking to me at all. I think the salesman, Allen Seymour scammed me because he wouldn't return my calls. To this date, I have not seen an explanation of the fine print. I was told by the sales rep if I move I can cancel the service within 60 days notice. I was told when I called them that I could not cancel the service agreement. The reason for canceling they are not located where I am moving that is North Carolina
