About this business

The "13 Coins" name is of Peruvian origin. The story goes that a poor young man loved and wished to marry a wealthy girl. Her father asked what he had to offer for his daughter's hand in marriage. The young man reached into his pocket. He had only 13 coins, but assured the father he could pledge undying love, care and concern. The father was so touched, he gave his daughter's hand and "13 Coins" has come to symbolize unyielding love, care and concern.

Funky Seattle Institution – Went on the advice of a former Seattle-ite--I liked it but it isn't for everyone. It harkens back to a another time and place in the past: dark booths and lots of leatherette furniture. The food is classic diner: solidly prepared and large portions. Service is efficient and friendly. Sit at the counter and enjoy the chef acrobatics. But beware: not cheap!

Overpriced, but good service. – What I experienced was basically a Dennys with way overpriced items and excellent service.

I'll never forget it- ugh! – If you want to dine with and be served by some of the most disturbingly creepy people in the region, this is the place for you. Bad service, worse food and sleazy patrons are just a few of the reasons my friends and I will never be back. The food was barely edible and considering the quality, obscenely overpriced. Save your money and your stomachs!

24 hrs!!! – I was a bartender / mang. about 15 yrs. ago in seattle. I was blessed to work at some of the nicest houses , from Anthony's home port in Kirkland , to opening the Four seasons . At that time i was doing alot of clubing . If it was afterhours there wasn't a question on where we were going . It was which 13 coins we were going to . Hope there still top of there game !

Like Denny's, but with a wine list... – I love 13 Coins, don't get me wrong. But for the most part, the last 15 years have seen a pretty serious decline in the quality of the food/service, and well, pretty much everything about the Coins. Personally, I think the one by Sea-Tac has probably weathered the changes better, but Downtown's 13 Coins still has charm...besides, where else can someone get filet and lobster at 3:00 AM?? It might be old, it might be pricey, but I think the Coins will be here for many years to come...

Another world – The later the hour, the better it tastes. It's retro dinner theater - sitting at the counter or in a booth watching the action and the mix of people. Don't expect too much from the food, just sit back & enjoy the ride... a bit pricey? maybe, but it includes a floor show.

Every city needs one of these! – Ate here on a whim one late night- Was truly surprised to find a late night diner that didn't 'look' like one.. fantastic ambience- love the way you can watch them cook at the counter.
