The "13 Coins" name is of Peruvian origin. The story goes that a poor young man loved and wished to marry a wealthy girl. Her father asked what he had to offer for his daughter's hand in marriage. The young man reached into his pocket. He had only 13 coins, but assured the father he could pledge undying love, care and concern. The father was so touched, he gave his daughter's hand and "13 Coins" has come to symbolize unyielding love, care and concern.

Looking for the WORST place in Seattle to eat? Stop in and visit 13 Coins. – Dont bother going. New to the area and wanted a cool place to eat. 13 coins looks cool very nice environment but wow.......I didnt eat my dinner. The food was so bad! TO TO DENNYS!! save your money – I have been going to 13 coins for a few years. The last 2 times I have gone have been just aweful. The prices have gone through the roof and the food has gotten BAD! My bill was $110.00 for 2 but the food was worth about $20.00. I will spend money on good food and not have a problem but I do have a problem with over priced bad food. Good late night eating – The first time I went to the 13 coins was after a monday night football game, and other than subway it was the only place open. The food was good, maybe a little over priced, but when it is late and you want a good meal you can't go wrong here, they have anything that you could want.

Nice ambiance and pre-dinner snacks. Underwhelming entres and REALLY overpriced – I picked out 13 Coins during a Google search for "Late Night Dining" and decided to give it a try. The ambiance of the restaurant was nice, and I was seated in a spacious booth. They waited on me immediately, and gave me an interesting snack combo of somewhat stale French bread and a mixture of olives, celery, carrots, pickles, tomatoes and salami slices. Great atmosphere and the food is beyond compare! – I went to 13 Coins early on a Saturday evening (before 6 pm) and was seated right away. We sat at the counter so we could watch them cook. We ordered the Calamari for an appetizer and it was WONDERFUL! They did not overcook it as most resteraunts like to do and the dipping sauce was perfect! What We Expected -- Not Great – We visited the 13 Coins, Downtown, on 11-15-07. We had read a number of the reviews, so we were not surprised at anything. We arrived for an early dinner (4 PM), and as we expected, the hostess tried to seat us at the counter. Fun place to visit, wouldn't want to eat there. – I cringe when this place is suggested...the furniture is the only appealing part of the experience. Food is to die for...and not in a good way. Horrendously overpriced for the cheap ingredients and snotty service by bitter servers.
