The best as far as I'm concerned Okay, I don't understand all the negative comments concerning Van Aken's. I've been bringing my dogs there since 1977, so for over 30 years and have NEVER had any reason to complain. I've trusted the lives and health of 7 dogs to them. Horrible Horrible place! I was injured & my poor cat needed to see the vet. My roommate offered to take my cat in for me. I called Van Aken & explained my situation & asked if my roommate was to bring my cat in for me can I please give her my credit card to use? (I'm not expecting my roommate to pay the bill for me) They say no but check with a man named Tony who calls himself the "manager" & he gets on the phone with an attitude & won't listen to me. Info from the inside If you want the nitty-gritty, here it is. I worked at this clinic for a long time. I got to know the staff, the clients, and the way of the work. With the exception of one, the technicians are payed $8 an hour, they're hired without work experience because this hospital's ways just cannot be compared to anothers, and the office manager (Tony) knows very well that an educated technician would NOT put up with Doctor J, much less the working conditions. There are simply other low cost vets with better reputations! I am NOT a customer of Van Arken Pet Hospital. I grew up around 20 years ago on 51st avenue and Thomas. We made frequent trips down Indian School and honestly most of the businesses there are not ones I would recommend. In the past 20 years the area has gotten even worse. I remember that vet clinic from my childhood and remembered never wanting to take my pets there! Even as I child, I knew that place didn't look right. Good Business I was referred to Vanaken by a friend of mine who had used their services before. They took wonderful care of my dog. The place was immaculate, and the vet is really caring. I was told by another vet that my dog would need all sorts of expensive surgery, and when I took him to Vanakens for a second opinion, I found out that was NOT the case. Thanks Vanaken.
Gifted and caring Dr. Johnsen, Tony and Staff are the best. It means a lot to have a doctor who is as gifted and as caring as you are. Hope you know how much you are appreciated!
Dr Johnson is the Best! I have been seeing Dr. Johnson at Van Aken for several years and she has treated all of my cats and dogs with love every time. I would trust Dr. Johnson with any of my animals without hesitation. She has always treated them with the best possible care and concern. She has always been wonderful to me as well. I believe with all my heart that she the best vet I have ever been to and trust her completely! not good at all Van Aken hospital is horrible in the way they treat people. When I brought our two cats in to get spayed- they wanted us to get our cats vaccinated. I told her we did that at the humane society. Then the doctor asked if I had my records, I told her not with me... I am not sure if she assumed I was lying because then the doctor preceeded to say. You know if they don't ACTUALLY have their rabies shots and bite a kid then they are gonna have to get their heads chopped off to be tested for rabies... I was HORRIFI... read more
MAD as a HATTER! So.... There was this dog named "Zeus".. A big beautiful Great Dane who was also paralyzed; (see Pachuco's story) Poor Zeus' owners could afford the treatment... which did not work. Zeus had to be walked daily; twice a day, dragged around the yard there in the quad behind the clinic where the kenneled prisoners are kept. Zeus died after a couple weeks of suffering.
