I had spent all day into the evening in the Surgical Family Lounge at UPMC Shadyside during my husband’s surgery, and he was admitted afterward. I was charging my phone in the lounge when I got the call he was finally in a room, so I hurriedly unplugged my phone, got his belongings from a locker and went up to his room. You are shutting a vital health care clinic in rural PA and expect people to drive hours every week for necessary care and redo expensive testing in the middle of a pandemic. You have no concern for the hundreds of patients who are now lacking doctors and the regular shots they require. Or the staff losing jobs in a pandemic. I wouldn't recommend you to anyone.

UPMC IS A 3.5 OUT OF 5, BUT TO ME IT IS A 0/5 WORST POSSIBLE EXPERIENCE, LIKE SOME SORT OF A LIVING NIGHTMARE. CANCER CARE AND SURGERY TWICE IN THE PAST 8 YEARS, A TOTAL OF THREE YEARS ON CHEMO, SO I AM MORE THAN AQUAINTED WITH THIS MENACE. I AM A FORMER EMPLOYEE, RN. IT HAS BECOME DIABOLICAL WITH UPMC AS A MEGA PROVIDER. I HAVE FRIENDS THAT WERE PHYSICIAN AND THEY LEFT BECAUSE IT IS IMPOSSIBLE THERE. ER at UPMC EAST is a disaster waiting to happen. I spent 36 hours in an ER room getting diagnosed from an injury. I am not complaining about the waiting time. With Covid-19 all facilities are jammed to get patients to diagnostic equipment like an MRI. I literally watched a patient die while 3 of the 4 nurses that were to take care of my area or ER rooms practiced being lazy, talkative on a variety of non medical subjects for 36 straight hours. UPMC did not properly set up the referral for my child's specialist visit and after 5 MONTHS of back and forth with their billing and my insurance trying to find out which hoops to jump through, their billing department fully aware that I have worked continually for months since the very first bill and insurance is slow, sent the bill to collections after assuring me they would not. Incompetent billing is going to hurt my credit and I haven't met a specialist there yet who was worth this kind of effort, not one. Garbage.

My sister and I recently lost our mother, who was a former employee of UPMC. She had a life insurance policy with UPMC and we have been trying to work with our benefits consultant, Gayleen. It has been an absolute nightmare during this very difficult time. Our mother tried to make a change to her benefits prior to passing, but after multiple follow ups and verifications of address, the paperwork never arrived as promised. UPMC is horrifying. A cancer on our communities. I don't know who is managing this hospital group but but if I did I would take the time to list all the specific tragic and sad experiences I've had, family, and friends have had, and all of the complaints from our community (and their own doctors and staff, confidential of course, that Ive heard over the past years), if I knew they would listen. just drove 3 hours to geisinger in Danville from coudersport. we were told to go out there for my son's knee he had an MRI in coudersport they sent the information to geisinger. we get there to find out that they did not get the MRI or the x-ray information and we have to make another trip in a week. worst hospital ever waste of time and my money. my son is still in pain with no answers it's been almost 2 months.
