No one wants surgery; and especially not away from home. However a bicycle accident changed my thinking. DR Atkinson is so exceptional as a physician and as a person, that I would travel back if needed surgery again. He listens to his patients, and his empathy is rather unique in the busy medical world of “patch-them-up and ship-them-out”. As a mom to two physicians, I know how busy schedules are, yet Dr Atkinson is on time yet never hurried. A true find!
Dr. Atkinson explained his diagnosis in detail and gave me the confidence that he could solve my shoulder problem. He explained the procedure, the likely results and any risks so that I could make an informed decision. The outcome of the surgery exceeded my expectations. There was minimal pain and I was able to start physio the day after the procedure. One month after surgery my repaired shoulder feels better that my other. I would not hesitate to recommend Dr. Atkinson and his team.
I was experiencing pain and catching in my shoulder. called Dr. Atkinson's office and had an appointment schedule the first of the year. Doctor sent me for MRI, xrays were taken in office. surgery was scheduled mid February and was done as out patient. I could not be happier. Dr. Atkinson is a real gentleman and thorough Doctor. Very pleasant to talk to and takes time to explain what he feels needs to be done and any possible outcomes. 3 weeks post surgery and NO PAIN.
Dr. Atkinson did my rotator repair one year ago. I am extremely pleased with the results. I am out golfing and dancing again! His staff was wonderful and his therapy department was very good also! I would recommend him to anyone!

I am 78 year male. I injured my left shoulder and I saw Dr. Atkinson. He started with physical [therapy, than he did an EMG and surgery. Dr. Atkinson did a marvelous procedure reattaching the tendons. I feel he is a very skilled surgeon and worked very hard to restore full use of my shoulder. After 8 months of physical therapy at SWFL Advanced Orthopedics & Sports Medcine I have complete range of motion. I am very pleased with the entire team effort and the kindness that was show to me
I developed "frozen shoulder" 5 years ago, My left arm was stuck to my body. I remembered the success stories of friends with Dr. A, so I did not hesitate to call Dr. Atkinson. The day after surgery I was up and about getting a pedi/mani and feeling great. Sadly, 5 years later, "frozen shoulder" came to my OTHER shoulder; without hesitation I went back to see Dr. Todd, a fine, positive & skilled surgeon. As a former nurse I noticed how much the hospital staff respected Dr. Atkinson.
Dr. Atkinson performed a full reverse-shoulder replacement for me. After his initial analysis /evaluation he fully explained the procedure, including the "pro" and "cons" and the healing process on my 73 year old body. Almost a year later, I have regained about 85/90% of my strength and flexibility (improving all the time). I am able to once again play competitive golf. Can't say enough good things about Dr. Atkinson and his expertise and communication skills.
I’ve recommended Dr.Atkinson to all my friends and family who are considering surgery’s. He defined all my options before doing my knee replacement and we started with physical therapy and went on to shots. When these didn’t relieve my pain and I was losing sleep we moved on to total knee replacement. I’ve found I can now walk without pain and am not limited in what I do, which is such a wonderful feeling. I highly recommend Dr. Atkinson.
