The Tavern restaurant in downtown Abingdon is a step back in time. Our beautiful old building was built in 1779 and is the oldest of Abingdon's historic structures. In its original inception, it was an overnight inn for stagecoach travelers, housing famous guests such as Henry Clay, King Louis Philippe of France, and President Andrew Jackson. It’s always special going to the Tavern for dinner. This place holds a special place in my heart. I love the German dishes and beer! I love that the owner, Max, goes around and checks on everyone during dinner!

The food, the ambience, and the service made our dinner there one of the best we’ve ever had! First of all, Heather, our server was so attentive you’d have thought we were the only ones in the restaurant. The food was unmatched, the stuffed fillet and the Wiener schnitzel were the best we have ever eaten. The creme brûlée desert was the perfect finale to our dinner. Loved the historic venue which is the oldest historic building in Abington. The food was awesome. It was well prepared and very delicious.
