I'm a UI student who bought a condo on the SE side of Iowa City a couple years ago (about 1/2-1 mile from The Quarters). As a lifelong Iowa Citian, I'm very excited to see more student housing coming to this side of town.
It is absolutely disgusting that you evicted low income tenants to build this resort for spoiled college children. It is not something this town needs, as there are already enough apartments and housing catering to them. What we need is affordable housing. How hard would it have been to remodel this complex into a safe and energy efficient place for those who don't make as much? Instead, you pushed them out into the streets like they were trash. Brand new buildings, appliances, and everything. Rent is manageable with so many amenities including free laundry, parking, shuttle, swimming pools, tanning, etc.! Can't wait to love here!
Yes, just what this city needs: more cheaply-built, overly-priced "luxury" student housing, conveniently located a short 3 miles from the University of Iowa campus! I am so glad to see out-of-town real estate developers - like the Tailwind Group from Mankato, MN - really investing in the Iowa City community by kicking out working low-income residents from their homes to provide a beautiful, new housing complex (a bathroom for every bedroom!) with such great services (a bus to campus!) and amenities (a pool and hot-tub! Many families were evicted from their homes for this place to be built. The land used to provide low income housing. Sad that the University of Iowa does not care about the citizens of Iowa City.
