The Pit

4.2

About this business

The Pit offers some of the best barbecue in Raleigh. Set in a restored early 20th Century meatpacking warehouse, the restaurant carries on the North Carolina barbecue tradition by serving full-hog, pit-cooked pork, and other barbecue essentials. But The Pit is more than a generic barbecue restaurant: it combines the generous portions of classic meat-loving joints with some surprises. The pork is free-range, and guests can enjoy barbecued tofu, wines, cocktails, and a comprehensive list of bourbons.

The brisket is phenomal, hush puppies were the best I've had, and sweet tea was great. I like that multiple people wait on you so you aren't left sitting there waiting for your specific waiter/waitress to get back around to you. Derinultey gonna be coming back.

I didn't like the texture of the brisket. It was rubbery. For $17.99 the portion of brisket was small. The pulled pork was plentiful yet the flavor wasn't the best that we've had as it lacked the authentic flavor. The hush puppies were delicious. The servers were very polite. The vibe was good.

I do not know what has happened to the cooking here. The ribs were dry and tough—almost obvious they were left overs from probably the day before and reheated. The serving of mac and cheese barely was noticeable. This is the second time the food has been subpar to what it used to be. Yesterday was worse than the time before. For the price you pay the food should be on point everytime. I am seriously contemplating not going again. Portions have shrunk as so has the quality.
