The Dawn has been a Godsend to me!… not to mention others here also for care and treatment and there’s just a great balance of all aspects life requires provided here with treatment that make all of us feel so at home here so quickly, I made many friends and so many just didn’t want to leave! I chose the Dawn after much research looking for rehabs that offered more than the 12 step approach which simply had not worked for me... I chose the Dawn because it offered help with trauma recovery and mental health in general, and because there was a Buddhist approach as well as the 12 steps. I needed more, and this place seemed to have it. As well, the cost was far less than rehabs in Canada; the final deciding factor was my phone interview with Helen- she got it. I arrived at The Dawn in January in an ultra-hyper-vigilant state, and I think that context matters. When someone comes in like that, everything is heightened. You are not “resisting” in the ordinary sense so much as scanning constantly, reading tone, structure, gaps, people, systems, all at once, because your nervous system has not yet understood that it can stand down. The Dawn has been a really important part of my recovery journey. Going to treatment overseas was a big step for me, but from the moment I arrived I felt welcomed and supported. The staff are compassionate, knowledgeable, and truly care about the people in their program. Every member of the team knows your name and goes out of their way to say hello. Beyond the therapy team, the real glue is the support staff, medical team, cleaning staff, housekeeping, grounds care, and kitchen team. What I appreciated most was the balance ... read more
