terrible waitress – I used to love this place and the americanized spicy sushi rolls. my husband enjoyed the teriyaki bowl. it's always been slow but worth it. Recently I went in for lunch with my friend and our daughters; our husbands were meeting us from work. We were sat at a tiny table with no room for the kids, and the hostess was rude about my daughter who wears oxygen and is disabled. very good – My partner and I visited the Happy Sumo on a late saturday afternoon. The place was busy (a good sign) and I loved the decor, very modern and clean. I had the Pro Sumo Combo (Sunset roll, 2 inari, 3 nigiri ) and my partner had chicken teriyaki (again....always with the chicken teriyaki). Awesome ! – I love this place! Who would have thought you could find such fresh fish in Utah! I am such a seafood lover and always complaining about the qualify of seafood out here. But somehow they do it here and I have never had anything to complain about. Everything is great the atmosphere is great. The service is always wonderful. I recommend you try it if you haven't before. You won't be disappointed.
simply fantastic – This place is the best. It is probably my favorite restaurant in SLC. I used to live in Maui (where the sushi is fresh and delicious), but I can honestly say I like the sushi at Happy Sumo more!! Gave it another try, dissapointed like always – Happy sumo has a great interior and is located in a good location, but that is it. I went there recently with my husband and friend because it was the only sushi place open early on a sunday. We ordered 10 different specialty rolls and they all tasted so similiar it wasn't worth it. The rice on the rolls tasted like all the rolls had been premade and stuck in a fridge. The service is ridiculous – the restaurant atmosphere is ok. the music is too loud though. The service was the worst. there are tons of servers standing around, but no service. i understand sushi takes a little while to make. but does edamame and miso??? how about a drink i ordered 10 minutes ago? it's frustrating. also, the red spicy sauce they use in their "spicy" rolls is just that red paste that Vietnamese restaurants use in their Pho. THIS PLACE HAS IT ALL!!!! – My girlfriends and I just love the sumo! Everything we always get there is soooo good and makes us melt in our seats! It's cool because my girlfriends and I can go there for a night out, and I can go there on a date, but I can also take my grandma there for a nice dinner! This place is all about one thing...PERFECT Sushi!! – the ambience in the restaurant was amazing. it's a trendy, yet not up-ity restaurant. the sushi was premium & the sake was amazing. i've never seen such a large menue with so many original rolls in my life. Our waitress was super sweet and so helpful.but the food is what makes it perfection!! i'll be back!
Best sushi in any town – I have been going to happy sumo since it has open, like a bottle of wine , it only gets better, The food and service is over the top. I went there over labor day weekend and it was packed solid, but all I saw were smiles on sumo servers and Chong our sushi chef was amazing. The food was as good as always, if not better! My wife loves the dragon scales! the surroundings are beautiful and the overall energy was great.I always can not wait to go back .Try it and you will become a Sumoholic like me.
