George's Best Yet!!! – I was a bit skeptical about this place since it's attached to an old mall, but from the moment I walked in I knew it was a gem. The atmosphere is unlike any other, perhaps more like a trendy NYC restaurant, and it's a huge, versatile space. The "Copper Room" really inspired me, so much that I held my wedding reception there! But the food is even more impressive than the decor, especially for the price. It's tough to comment on specific dishes as the menu changes often, but the chicken they served at ou... read more
Impressive! – From the outside decor, this place doesn't lure you in at first, but once inside it's as if you walked into a more fashionable P.F. Changs. The atmosphere is great, the food is unbelievable (you have to try the duck or the ahi tuna) and service was unmatched. It's as if you've stumbled upon a great "unknown" restaurant... definately a place you could call your own.
A place like in NY – Spice Street is one of those places that does not impress you from the outside, but once inside you say "wow!" The restaurant could really be located in the best corner of Manhattan or San Franciso. I have been there several times now and always had great food. One tip: don't always expect spicy food. The concept is about spices, not spicy. Another tip: they open a few weeks ago a great sushi bar like I haven't seen in the Triangle (both in menu and quality). Although it's expensive, it is worth trying.
no, thank you – Note to the management at Spice Street: waitstaff delivering monologues that have nothing to do with dinner does not equal good service. Oppressively attentive table-wiping between courses, when the table isn't dirty, does not allow me to relax and enjoy my meal. Food was okay but expensive for what it is; service was bizarre. I didn't come to the restaurant to hear about my waiter's library card, or last night's event. We won't be back.
jjenny – Wow! I took my Party from GSK around 40 people into Spice Street Most of Us for the First Time I was so Impressed with everything Especially The Food & Service We received From a Waiter called morgash And Said TheyWere Perfect My Friends are still talking about it ,I was Reccomended this Location by one of my Bosses Who also Had a great Function . Well all I can say Is well done George and His Team we will be back!
2nd chance – I ate at Spice Street with my business associates after being told NOT to by several others. I can honestly say that it was one of the nicest meals I've had in Chapel Hill in a long time. For that matter, it is one of the best restaurants in the triangle. I recommend it to all.
NEVER EAT THERE – I recently had the unpleasant experience of eating at Spice Street. This by far and away was the WORST dinning experience in my history of eating out. The food and service were TERRIBLE. I would never go back nor recommend any one else to eat there. The owner should be ashamed of the food and should fire the chef. The restaurant décor is nice but never judge a book by its cover. We even could hear others in the restaurant complain about the food and service.
Pick up the pace – I dine out often in this town, and I love the variety of experiences I can have. It seems that George has created another with his newest concept of Asian themed dishes, but at a more modest price point. Only one of the entree dishes was priced over $20.00. The portion sizes were fine, the decor and music were great, but the service was a little slow. (Not bad, just slow). Overall, worth a visit, but I'll let the waiter know that there's no need to be shy in taking the orders.
curious george – Hip decor with so-so food and good-looking low-IQ staff do not add up to a good restaurant. Service is not on par with a true upscale restaurant. A place for the trendy wannabes.
